just wondering cause i think it is so rude not to tip the dj or band you have at your reception. they are there for 4 to 5 hours with you and maybe get paid 100 - 200 for the night but they are really spending the whole day getting ready for you wedding. i had this fight with a friend of mine who said she wasn't go to tip and I thought it was rude. I feel you should tip the dj and mc the same amount if you have a band give it to the owner and let them split it any opinions?????????

Re: how does everyone feel about tipping????????
I agree. The band/DJ makes the wedding, they deserve some extra cash. The only way I wouldnt tip is if they did a bad job or were rude or something.

I think all vendors should be tipped. As long as they did a good job everyone deserves a tip. It shows appreciation, and they work better especially if you tip them mid-night.

I am more conservative about tipping.
When a vendor charges me a price, and I agree to pay it, it's assumed that they will do a good job for the agreed upon price.
I did tip all of the members of our band, but in retrospect, they probably didn't deserve it. I asked them to sing 1 more song at the end of the night and they refused. But, my cousin presured me into tipping them, so I shelled out another $500 for them to share. That's in addition to feeding them at approx $80 per person and giving them wedding favors.

yes i understand that but 99% of the time the place of your wedding(reception hall) won't allow the dj/band to go over there time limit it does sux that they refused I hope they were not mean to you

i agree with tipping all the vendors, but you spend enough. for example photography and video. we are spending $4000.00 for both. from start to finish its about 6 hours. im sorry. i have to work 2 months to make that and they get it in 6 hrs. me and fh were discusing this and we arent tipping them alot. i might sound rude but thats how i feel.

i agree, tipping is necessary if the vendor went above and beyond. but many of them i find are adding the gratuity into the final bill... it seems a little absurd to tip even more esp. if they 'just did their job.'

Who said I was over my time limit? We weren't over our time limit. Our official 'end time' was 11:30 pm. The band was packed up at 11:20 pm. That's when they said 'no' to singing one more song. And, I already paid them EXTRA for 1 hour overtime because I had a 5 hour reception.
My hall did not care about the end time. We didn't actually leave our reception until 12:30. Even though the band was long gone, a lot of family members stayed to chat with us and no one from my hall said one word about that.
The band did not deserve that tip. Also, considering that my 'do not play' list consisted of ONE SONG only. And, you guessed it...they sang it.
Just because a vendor does a job does not mean they automatically deserve a tip...
eta: my band did a great job singing, and keeping the crowd dancing. And, they were very talented. I am very happy with that. But, I would say that their mistakes pretty much evened out the other exceptional things. Thus, they didn't deserve a $500 tip on top of the $600 that I voluntarily spent to feed them (they were very vocal about my not being required to feed them)

You are right. And, if the vendor is the owner of the company, it's in very poor taste for that person to even accept a tip from a client.

america is way too tip crazy. you go to europe and it is not custom to tip unless someone went extremely out of their way. i loved that!
after paying several thousand $$$$ AND paying for meals, tips shouldn't be necessary IMHO. I will tip, but not a lot. i can't afford several hundred dollars (or a thousand) more. if you can, great...but i can't.

all of our vendors work for themselves. I will tip, but I'm not going to go nuts. like others on here said, we're paying them a LOT of money for their services and goods.
