I just got off the phone and am totally confused. Me and FH will be staying at a hotel the night of the wedding. He may have some family that need rooms too but it's not definite. So I called two hotels and they are saying I have to hold them under a cc and if they aren't used were are charged a cancellation fee? I though they just held it for you and plus I don't plan on paying for them to stay there.
I never heard of that before. the ones i called hold the rooms for you and if they aren't booked, then you aren't charged anything.

Re: How does hotel blocking work?
Hmm - That def does not sound right. When I called (I'm using the Huntington Hilton), I asked them to set up a hotel block for guests, and they set up a website for me. I only had to hold my own rooms on my credit card, all of the other guests went online and did it themselves.
I'd be a little wary of holding rooms on your credit card for other people. I'm sure you can block off like 5 - 10 rooms.

Re: How does hotel blocking work?
It depends on the hotel. I blocked two and I didnt need to leave a CC#. But a few that I called required that so I made sure not to block with them.

You definitely should not have to leave a cc#. My hotel (4 Points) lets us block up to 15 rooms without a guarantee.

That sounds iffy to me too. I reserved 10 room blocks at the Residence Inn in Plainview, w/o a cc or any kind of financial guarantee. The deal is, my oot guests must book by 30 days b4 the wedding or the remaining rooms will be released. However, the two suites I booked for the bp the night b4 required my cc.

that does not sound right at all.... we didn't have to pay.. they gave us 10 rooms and will add if needed (which will be needed). but if they rooms were not booked by 5/12/2010, then they would release them back into inventory... not charge to us at all!

Re: How does hotel blocking work?
most hotels require that a certain percentage is booked. so the way mine works is, i have 10 rooms blocked, it is required that 70% are filled (hence 7 rooms booked) and if i do not fulfill the 70%, i have to pay to get to 70%. So lets say that only 5 people booked rooms, then i am required to pay for the other two rooms, so that 70% is filled. hope that makes sense.
