How does it work? Registry & Reception

How does it work? Registry & Reception

I have no idea about things like this - do guests invited to the wedding give gifts through the registry and then bring money to the reception as well? How much do people usually spend on a registry?

generally here in NY people give gifts from the registry at the shower and engagement party and cash at the reception although some will give cash to both or gifts at both, etc.

How much people spend on the registry depends on how close they are to you and how much they can afford. The rule f thumb is put a range of things on there, from a $20 tupperware set to the $500 luggage you're dreaming of, so everyone has something in their price range. Don't forget your BP and others may want to chip in for one gift. Basically just register for the things you'll want and need when you get married, they'll wind up being ain a rnage anyway, and people know how much they want to spend and will find something in that range (the prices are written right on the sheet when they print the registry)

Some people have been known to give one gift.. I didnt really have a true shower..It was more of a bachaekorette party..but from expereince it is up to the guests. Age can play a factor in if you get a gift at the shower and/or the wedding simply because alot of people dont know ettiquite

I'm not having a shower or engagement party. So we have been getting gifts through the registry by mail. And gifts we have been receiving are in the range of about $50. Does this usually mean they plan to bring money to the reception? I heard something about bringing money to cover your plate?!??! I'm curious for when I attend other people's weddings, too. We are not from here (US) so we are not really sure about these things...

Your BP might be throwing you a shower!

Some people sned ift through the mail instead of bringing a gift at the wedding...most people bring $$ at the wedding here in NY.

The thing about covering your plate is a myth. The idea is you're supposed to give enough money to cover the cost of your plate at the reception. That hardly ever happens and its not what the etiquette is. The etiquette is that the gift reflects the closeness the people feel to the bride and groom and what they can afford. Some people try to cover the plate, but DON'T expect to get your $$ back. I don't know anyone who did
