How does this sound?? And can you help out a measly little Queens born and raised girl! LOL
Ok, I want to get my mom and sister a combined sort of christmas gift since they are always together and are going through so much lately. I wanted to book a hotel room in the city with a great view, get tickets to a play and a gift certificate for a nice dinner. Thing is, I dont wanna be spending thousands!
Does anyone know of any really nice hotels in Manhatten that wont totally break the bank for one or two nights? I know this may seem odd since we live 1 train stop away from Manhatten but I think they would love this. I want them to live it up for one weekend but I have no idea what hotels are really nice for the money.
Please helpppppp!!!!!

I think the Marriott Millenium down in Battery Park was having big rate specials at one point to get people back downtown.
Try hotel.com or expedia.com for good rates, too. The Sheraton is very nice, not too far from Times Square/Broadway. So is the Hilton.
There is also the Library Hotel which I think is across from the NY Public Library. Supposed to be very nice. Don't know about rates though.

Ive been too the Ameritania Hotel off Broadway near 54th.. its next to the Ed Sullivan Theatre. 230 West 54th St. New York NY 10019
I don't know about 'views' but if you walk outside you look right you see Times Square.
I remember the rooms being groovy. Sorta newage. White fluffy down covers and white pillows with a big red round accessory pillow. The light in the room had a cool shade that reminded me of westerns.. LOL... curtains were these ceiling to floor eggplant velet stuff.. Like I said.. kinda groovy.
According to hotels.com it's about $199.95 a night.
Other places I know personally are Flatotel off 52nd St. Nice area.. REALLY REALLY nice rooms (www.flatotel.com) but I think they are pricey. We had a good deal at around $179 a night when I went.
I do a lot of stupid conferences and it's just easier to stay IN the city than to commute from Long Island from time to time. That and my friend of San Francisco comes in and visits so I stay over at the various hotels.
Sherton has a nice view of Times Square as well.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Try Hotels.com or if you have a triple A card, they give discounts too (to shows as well).

When I took the bar exam I stayed at the Affinia Southgate Tower. It's located 1 block away from Madison Square Garden and it was very nice. I had a studio with a terrace. You can check out the hotel at Affinia
I ended up booking the hotel through orbitz.com b/c I found it cheaper there.
