How early do you need to book the church? any recommendations?

so we are getting married at the Bourne Mansion on 8/23/2008.

I am Catholic and my FH is Episcopalian. We are looking to get married in a church of either kind near the mansion. How early do you need to book the church? I feel like I don't know anything about planning a wedding!!!

Any recommendations on nice churches in the area???

By the way this site is amazing for completely clueless brides to be like me....thanks for all of your advice!!!

I would call the rectory office of the churches you're intersted in to see if they have your date available as soon as possible.

i booked the church 1 year and 7 months before...definitely call ASAP if you already booked your hall to even make sure they have your date available at the church

I agree..call up churches ASAP...theres a lot of restrictions and rules n things to follow and sometimes they cant accomodate your date or time you want/need..

we booked ours about a month after we got engaged.. church and hall i think are the most important to coordinate. I would def start calling now!

Well for a Catholic church you have to book it well in advance b/c you'll have to do pre-cana. Most parishes only allow members to get married there. I booked mine 1 1/2 yrs in advance and the time I wanted was already taken!

I would call ASAP also. . . they book up just as fast as RHs!!!

I booked my church before I booked my RH because I wanted to get married in the church I grew up in.
I wouldn't drag your feet too much and book the church as soon as you can!

I'm not getting married in a church so I am only speaking from advice given to me...but don't tell any church you speak with that you have already booked an rh...because they want the church to be your first priority they sometimes go out of their way to make the church not available on that day if you let it be known the rh is booked (again this is just advice I was given, not my experience so I'm not sure how accurate it is, but thought I'd share)

AHHH - so nervous now!

And to make it even more difficult, my fiance and I live in San Francisco (we are originally from NYC) so we defnitely aren't members of any of the churches around that area.

I really really want to get married in a chuch. I wonder what they would do though since we are in SF about the pre-cana????

I have heard that Episcopal churches are a bit more leniant...

wow i really need to get on this!

oh just saw which church in your profile - sorry new at this =)

well thanks for all of the insight everyone - I definitely feel like im a bit more prepared for everything.

It definitely is a tad more stressful planning from 3,000 miles away.

yeah i have heard that too..catholic churches get very upset about that. I already warned my brother cause he is getting married in a catholic church
I am not we are getting married in a lutheran church...pastor know i booked already he didnt mind.

You can probably find a church to marry you, but I highly doubt that a RC church will w/out you living her, attending precana, etc. I know from experience that lots of brides who have already been married Catholic have had their SECOND weddings at presbyterian churches without issue. Good luck!

We're having our reception at the Bourne too... And we're having our ceremony at Saint Ann's Episcopal Church in Sayville. It's not far and it's really prettty... my FH is Catholic too and they didn't have any problem marrying us.
