How far do you go with the 'groom can't see you' thing?

Original post by violetfairy

My mom thinks I'm being silly.

I don't want FH to see me before the wedding, which means we're going to have to find a ceremony location other than at the catering hall (or there won't be any time for pictures)...

But, beyond that, I don't want him to see *anything* before the wedding-- not my shoes, not my tiara, not my veil, my garter, etc. He did see my makeup trial (and wasn't thrilled with it because he likes me au naturel), but I don't think I want him to see my hair trial. So I'm hiding everything in boxes.

How far do you go with stuff like that?

He's seen the shoes... he was worried I would go 'too flat' and it would be uncomfortable when we danced! So I tried them on, and he's happy about the height. He's seen the purse too.

I just don't want him to see the dress or the veil.

Anything else..I usually want to show him as soon as I get home, so I haven't thought of hiding anything.

My FI is my best friend I don't like surprises and neither does he....we are doing everything together, it has been very comforting....he has held it together when I have flipped and cried over the stupidest things....I'm glad were going the non-traditional route....I can feel rest assured my day will go as we planned....although I probably will have small gifts for him as a surprise the day of the wedding....If we were a TV show, I'd be the Queen at punking him, I always do! Our wedding is serious and we're taking extra precaution to make sure. Actually doing everything together has allowed us to present a strong united front against anyone with an opinion, particularly family and close friends.

nsgraham I agree with you 100% my FI tells me daily how much fun he is having planning our wedding, he has been a trooper looking through catalogs, magazines, stores, the internet etc and not once complained....he even bought ideas to me....it's good when you have a mate you can share with and let them be a part of the process as a team member and not just a bench person on the sidelines

I don't want him to know anything!!! I did a trial in my house a few weeks ago (we live together) and I had to mess the hair up and take the make-up off!! That is how obsessive I am!! He said recently that he likes my hair as is (I am doing a down and curly style) and I am constantly trying to throw him off, pretending I am going to wear my hair up that day!! I am also trying to throw him off about the dress (insinuating I love off the shoulder blah blah). I am wearing a strapless!!!

FH didn't want to see anything. Even when I want to show him something, he won't look. In fact, I'm not even allowed to talk about my dress in his presence. And if I say I'm looking for an accessory in white (as opposed to Ivory), he'll say 'Oh no! Now I know it's white!'

he's silly.

it's a speical moment when you see the bride dressed up like an angel. it's like meeting her for the first time

He's seen the veil and tiaras (on me) and the makeup and hair. He hasn't seen the dress and won't until the wedding. Since we actually want to attend our cocktail hour, we're taking all of our pictures before the wedding anyway, but I do want pics/video of the first time he sees me in my gown and everything. It's also customary in Judaism for the bride and groom to see each other before the ceremony in front of everyone else anyway.

We live together, so the only thing that might be difficult is when I bring my dress home and the fact that the woman who is doing my alterations is the head designer of a formal dress designer who is a current client of FH's (he used to work there and now they're his client), so he may see it hanging up anytime he walks into her office. I'm hoping she'll try to be careful about it.
