They say average is 2-3 months before, and I've always gotten the invite 3 months before. However, I understand not wanting to send them around the holidays, since the post office is overloaded at that time and they might lose a few!!! So sending them right after new years might be a good idea.

When you want to send them also might affect you if you have an A list and a B list of invites....

Also be sure to make the response time at least 4-5 weeks before the wedding date, since you know how some people wait for the last minute to send those things in!!

I agree w/the above post.

Sending them out right after the new year will be perfect.

It gives you enough time to have two RSVP dates if you need to obviously and enough time for people to get them and settle in.

You are getting married on 6 days before me. My invitations are going out on January 2nd...It is actually 12 weeks prior to the wedding. They say it should usually be anywhere from 10-12 weeks prior...

Don't send them out prior to January bc you don't want them to get lost with the holiday mail

If I waited 2 months before the wedding, I would be sending them right in the middle of Christmas card season. The USPS is not as reliable as you hope they would be. I also want to make sure there are no holiday postal things (like decorative cancelled stamp markings) on my invitations. They will be hand cancelled and I will find a post office that will let do it myself. They will be sent a little early in the second week of December.

Another thing to consider, for those getting married in February or late January is that there may be a postage increase after the first of the year. (I heard a rumor)So the postage on your response cards may need to reflect that, while your invitation postage stays the same.

I would wait until maybe 2 weeks into the new Year because although the holidays are over, there is still so much mail at that time.

Since I am getting married on a holiday weekend, I will probably be sending out my invites some time in March!

I'm on the same page as my date twin!
I'm nervous about the Christmas card fiasco at USPS

I was told 2-3 months before. We're getting married in August and most likely to send them out in begining of May.
