we started off slow...we got engaged in july 2005 and didnt do a single thing until feb 2006! i still have a lot to do!!

we were engaged for 7 months before we booked the hall but that is all that we did...everything else was after a year and 9 months and we still have things to book

we were engaged for about a month before we booked our rh but still havent booked many vendors...

Everybody is different and the length of every engagment is different. But the first things that need to be booked are the church (if needed) and the RH. That way you can lock your date. You can't book other vendors with a tentative date. Next vendors to book are the photog, video, and DJ. We tried booking as much as we could before 1 year was done, because that's the way we are. With that said, here are our dates:
-Engaged: 9/24/04 (18 months before wedding day)
-Booked RH and church: 11/25/04 (same week I started shopping for a gown. We also tried blocking hotel rooms this week because all of our guests were from OOT, but they said we were too early.)
-Registered 11/04 because my DH is the cook and he gets so excited for new gadgets!
-Booked most vendors by February '05, including photog, video, dj, florist, limo, invitations
-March '05: bought gown
-May '05: blocked rooms and sent out STDs
We were able to relax from 1 year before the wedding until 6 months before the wedding because we had everything booked!!!!!! That was awesome!!!! But once 6 months hit, then you have to pick your invitations, get BM dresses ordered, pick flowers, get attendent gifts, order favors, have your shower list ready, etc. Then you're in the homestretch!!!!! we got engaged this time last year. so we decided we wanted to enjoy the holidays, and not start planning till the after the new year. then in February i moved to philly to live w/FH. So we really didn't start planning anything till like march. at first we wanted a wedding on LI then we wanted a destination wedding. then finally in july/august we decided to go back to planning on LI. so then in august we booked the RH, and last week we just finished w/all our major vendors. so once we started in august we had everything booked with in 3 months.

RH, DOC, Band and Photography within the first 2 months.
Saving the rest for after the new year and I am not looking forward to it because that means that I have to squeeze myself into a dress after pigging out over the holidays![]()
