We got engaged in February 2010, and booked our first vendor June 2010 for our December 2011 wedding.

Re: How far in advance did you...
If you are booking with smaller companies that have not been around so long then I would be more concerned about them going out of business but if you are dealing with larger more established companys then there should be no problem.I would recommend that if you are dealing with a newer company make sure your deposit is not very big.

Re: How far in advance did you...
If you book with well-known vendors, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.First thing I booked besides my hall was my photog, and I did that just around the 1 year mark (last april). Over the summer, I booked everything else. Also, try to book the house vendors- that way you know they are there to stay, plus they are familiar with your hall.

Re: How far in advance did you...
I agree..like I told you, I think as long as we pick bigger companies, we shall be fine. My mom thinks its too early too but hey why not lessen the stress by getting some things done, and spread the money deposits out over time.Check the bbb and the reviews on here.

Re: How far in advance did you...
I started in June of this year for a Nov. 2011 wedding, so I don't think you would be too early if you started now. You just have to be sure that you really love what you are booking as there is a lot of time where you may change your mind.

You have plenty of time, but the earlier you book the better prices you get!

Re: How far in advance did you...
I started a year and a half in advance. If I have any advice it's look at your top priorities in vendors first and make sure you research and take you time! Don't want to have second thoughts on anything!

Re: How far in advance did you...
I could not agree more - take advantage of the time you have and research so you guys are 100% sure about what you want!We booked most vendors a year in advance (flowers like 6-7 months)...and we got all of our 1st choice vendors! Plus, when we booked I knew it was exactly what worked with our overall vision!
IMO - the ceremony site/reception hall are the most important to line up asap in that once you know what you want find a date that works for both and pounce on it!

Re: How far in advance did you...
It's a crap shoot- you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. On the one hand, vendors book up fast and you want to lock in the lower price before they raise them again for 2012. On the other hand, vendors closing is a valid point as well as you could change your mind and find something you like btter!I didn't book anything until a year out. I booked my florist 3 months before the wedding and my MUA 1 month before the wedding! Crazy, I know, but it worked out fine. Out of the many, many vendors I contacted, only ONE was booked on my date and that was an RH! Good luck!

I would say just go for it! No harm in ensuring you get the vendors you want!!

Re: How far in advance did you...
I don't think it's ever too early to book with a vendor! FH and I booked the hall right away, but waited on some other vendors and ended up being rushed and stressed

Re: How far in advance did you...
I got engaged in Nov. 07 & booked our RH 4 months later. Then booked everything as soon as possible. I dont see a big difference if you book a year or a year & three months fromnow. Just try to choose reputable places with good business. They you know will be sticking around. lolWelcome New Vendors
