Mine too!!!
There is no harm in her looking around but my mom doesnt want to buy anything too soon b/c she is scared she will find something she will like more.
After my BMs get their acts together, we will find them their dresses then I will help my mom.

My mom is just starting to look now, sort of casually,about 4 months in advance. My grandmother asked at omnibus & in the early Spring & they said June for an October wedding.
Also, I just picked the BM's dresses, so she didn't want to look any earlier.

hahaha mine is the opposite!!! It seems like she wants to wait till october to start looking but I dont know if that is too late... if she dosent find something right away.. I mean it takes like 2 months to get the dress in and then there is alterations....

Your mom can definitely start looking, but she has plenty of time as far as ordering goes. Once ordered the dress will not take more than 6 weeks. The problem my mom has is she can't find a dress she loves and my wedding is only 4 months away. FMIL bought her dress in February I think, so like 8-9 months in advance.

my mom also wants to wait..hoping she will lose weight. But I told her she needs to start looking by the end of August beginning of Sep. That gives her just over 2 months

I think my mother started looking in August for her gown for the Sept. wedding.
We ended up finding it in Lord & Taylors so it didn't need to ordered and she had alterations done at a local dry cleaners that took a week.
If she is going to the dept store/off the rack route, she can stat whenever she wants. If it's going to be ordered through a salon, she should probably look 2-3 months in advance for the best options.

I cannot get my mother motivated to look for a dress to save my life!!!! I keep making subtle hints: I think a cranberry color would look great on you. But nothing!

I feel for you!!! My mom isnt even waiting to loose weight she just likes to watch me go nuts!! AND to make it worse my fmil has already started looking .. but dosent want to order it before my mom b/c she wants to make sure they are not wearing the same color!!! how stupid is that???!?!?!

My MIL did start looking, but did ask what color my mom wanted to wear, b/c she thinks that the MOB should have first choice in color.

oh well my fmil dosent care if my mom has first pic of the color she just hates my mom and wont be seen wearing the same color... b/c people will almost confuse them they are over a decade apart in age and COMPLETLY different physically lmao People get so stupid when it comes to weddings.

Traditionally, MOB is supposedto pick a dress before MOG. MOB is supposed to set the level of formality.
That tradition is kinda gone - just make sure Mom leaves enough time for delivery/alterations...
Worse comes to worse there's plenty of off the rack stuff avaiable fot the procrastinators out there.

October should be fine. That's 4 months. Maybe after you pick the BM dresses, you can start to give her some ideas, so may she will start to look in September.
Funny thing- while I was replying to this, my mom called. . she is going shopping later today.
