Long story short fmil offered to buy us our favors.. She has a habit of calling FH when she knows he's with me, which is always lol and then asking to put me on the phone to talk to me. So she does this over the weekend saying she bought a bell, I never said I want a bell for a favor bc I don't, and I can come over and look at it and the sale ends Saturday. Um, ok lol. She then tells me about this other site that has favors. So I leave it as I'll email her later on in the week. So I email her 4 things I like on the site and me and FH decided on one. Why is she asking me about buying favors when we don't even have a guest count yet and won't know until prob the winter. Why is she worried about favors when it's May..The favors I want are on the website. Should I just tell her I'll let her know in a few months when to order them?

Re: How far in advance should you buy these?
aaah sounds like my mom.. wanting to look at jewerly for my dress... which i don't even have and will not have for awhile!
I'd tell her that there are a few things you need to finalize first before favors can be purchased. But once those are finalized she'll be the first to know and you two can look together for favors. Say something like, it'll give you two some time together. a. so she'll be happy and you'll be a good fdil b. you get what you want.

tell her not to order favors on a website. i saw favors they have on websites at actual stores and uhmm.....totally diff. (size wise and quality). i would go WITH her to favor shops. favor shops also wrap everything with personalized ribbon for a few dollars more.
just a suggestion

i mean you can order favors whenever you want, but also keep in mind that you will have to store them somewhere until the wedding.
Also, its far away so you might end up changing your mind about the favor or what theme you want to do.
I would just tell your mom you want to wait a few more months!

Thanks for the advice girls. I actually spoke with her and we are all gonna go to the store itself to see what they look like in person. She also agreed that it makes more sense to order them closer to the wedding date.

OK - this might be a really stupid question, so I apologize in advance. Where are there favor shops? I am currently in a bind over the favors for the E-Party (and debating if I even want them)...b/c the ones I originally wanted are gonna be like $300 or up...that is a bit much to spend on e-party favors imo

There's one called the wedding coach on 18th Ave in Brooklyn. They have a website too.

Yes you should. You need to know how many guests you will be expecting before ordering your favors. You don't want to end up with too many or too little.
There will always be more sales and deals.

i went to FOX's gift shop in flushing . northern blvd and liek 160th st. the store is biiiggg. it looks liek a garage sale but they have every single favor that u see on every website.
i got ceramic spoon rests for my bros wedding, with gift wrap, personalized ribbon, and jordan almonds in adorable butterfly tulle attached for 5$ each.
they do amazing wrapping cuz if u go in the store theres favors wrapped up waiting to get picked up by the bride lol

I think you should absolutely tell her that you need to wait to order favors. First, as you said, you don't have a guest count yet! Plus, do you have the space to store them until the wedding rolls around?

Re: How far in advance should you buy these?
Wait until you have an approximate guest count. Tell her what if we don't buy enough, or if we buy to many?? You don't want to waste money.
We bought our favors a long while ago, but that's b/c they are all being hand painted by my FMIL and we had an approx guest list. They are wine glasss and in my album if anyone wants ideas.
