how hard was it to decide on your final wedding dress?

i'm hearing a lot of two dress brides and people changing their minds about their dress after ordering them. i guess the question would be, how hard was it to decide on the wedding dress you'll be happy with? short of custom making your dress, what did you girls do to convince yourself this was the one?

I had it narrowed down to 2 dresses, and I made an appt for the next week. I ended up choosing the one I was thinking of for the whole entire week.

I knew it was the one the second I put it n, notice NOT the second I saw it.

After buying it though brides keep looking and seeing more and more dresses and you can drive yourself nuts! You will always think another dress is better than yours and have doubts but once your day arrives you remember what YOUR dress made you feel like.

I have tried on at least 100 and haven't settled on one yet. I am finding this very difficult.

Re: how hard was it to decide on your final wedding dress?

When we first got engaged in July, my mom and I went online and were just looking for ideas on dresses and I found this GORGEOUS dress Felicity by Maggie Sottero, but it was WAY to expensive for me and we had JUST gotten engaged so I put it out of my mind and went on with my life. Fast forward to dress shopping time, like 5 months later, I tried on about 100 dresses and then my mom and I are in Helen's Bridal and I try on a dress and look at it in the mirror and as 'Um, who designed this?' the lady says 'Maggie Sottero' so I gulp and say 'Is this Felicity?' and she says 'Why yes it is!' so I asked how much and she told me and it was WAY cheaper than I had priced earlier and my mom was already crying looking at me in my gown so low and behold, I ended up getting the gown I first saw months before, YAY! So ya never know, the first dress might be the right one, or any one of the other 100...you'll know when you don't wanna take it off, and you think of being in it when you're not...GOOD LUCK

I was starting to get sick over it. I told my honey we my have to put off the wedding. Every dress I tried on, oh my God, they look like **** or they where SO uncomfortable. Then one Saturday I went with my daughter and WOW great dress, great price.. My daughter said I looked beautiful, but she said that about every dress I tried on. But I had to go back one more time by myself, with no one telling me I looked beautiful, SO I can see if I really liked the way I looked and I loved the way I looked.

Re: how hard was it to decide on your final wedding dress?

I narrowed it down to two, and then chose the one that made me feel more like a bride when I tried it on, although the other was more of the style that I had been planning on buying. I tried not to let price influence me, but the one I chose was about $300 cheaper, so once I chose it, it definitely became an element!

I've found one thing to be key while wedding planning:Make a Decision and Move On!! Don't second guess yourself. Choose the gown, choose the shoes, choose the invitation, and STOP LOOKING. You don't have the time or energy to waste on it anymore once you've put your money down, there are loads of other things that need to be chosen, looked at, DIYed, etc. I guess if you felt pressured into choosing a gown, and then hate it at the first fitting, that's different. Otherwise, stop thinking about it and move on. You chose the gown, or the shoes or whatever, for a reason, trust yourself to have made the right decision.

Good luck!

I knew I wanted mine. I was on the maggie website every night looking at it. It was the first one i tried on and i knew it right away. I threw on a few others to appease mom....but i knew it and was thrilled!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had no problem. My dress was the first dress I saw and wound up being the one I got.

Once I choose my dress I stopped look. Meaning I also stopped looking in magazines, etc.

I think that's why people keep changing their mind - because they are looking after they put money down on one.

Look until you are completely happy with your choice- then stop looking completely.

I actually saw my dress on another person first. I asked to try the dress on once the other bride was finished with it. I LOVED it on - it was everything I wanted. I tried on more dresses after it, but nothing compared.

Do I see beautiful dresses in magazines or on this board and wonder if I should've tried them on? Sure. There are so many beautiful dresses out there, it's hard not to. But I know the dress I bought will be beautiful on the big day, and that's what matters.

I tried on a whole bunch of dresses on my own...then I finally went shopping with my mom and sister, and my mom picked out a halter top dress (which I would have never done), and I put it on last (b/c I didn't think I would like it), and after I put it on I didn't want to take it off, it was so comfortable and it just felt so right. I absolutely LOVE my dress! The seamstress has added some stuff like buttons down the back and we ordered lace to match my dress from the company to put on the edge of my veil...I can't wait to have it in my home so I can try it on all the time!

It's so much better to leave yourself that time to really think about it! Then you know for sure you made the right choice. I was so excited the night I ordered mine that I couldn't sleep!

I picked my own dress out of the hundreds available on the racks. I was starting to get nervous because it was already late january and my wedding is July 1. I wasn't liking anything I was trying on. I was just looking aver the racks and saw a silky dress and asked to try it on. I LOOOOOVED it. I wanted it before I even finished putting it on. I had to make sure it would be delivered on time and once that was confirmed, I ran to the bank for the payment. I can't wait for it to come in!!!!!

I went to like 10 places and kept trying on my dress and realized by the 10th time that that was the one.... it takes a while and you might not immediately get the 'this is it' feeling.

I knew the second I saw myself in the mirror that the one I bought was the one for me. I think that a lot of girls start too early and rush into a purchase. They then realize they made a hasty decision. I say try on a lot of dresses in all styles - they look different on you than they do on the hanger. Don't buy the first dress you try on right away. It might be the one, but keep looking - your dress isn't going anywhere. Wedding gowns are beautiful, and they will all look good on you. You just have to find the one that makes you feel more beautiful than all of the others. That is my opinion and hope it helps!
