Re: How have people recognized the non-living?
We did a 'In Remembrance' in our programs. It had a poem and then we listed their names.

Re: How have people recognized the non-living?
We included the names of everyone in our families that have passed on in our programs. My grandmother told me after the wedding that she was really touched that we included her parents' (my great grandparents') names in the programs - that it was a very special touch.
We also had a memorial candle at our reception hall.

Instead of a traditional favor, we are making a donation to the American Cancer Society in memory of my FH's father and my grandmother, both of whom died of cancer. The Amercian Cancer Society is giving us cards to place at each place setting to let our guests know what we are doing. A lot of other organizations provide similar cards.

We did a memory table.-little poem that included all the names of our grandparents then we put pics of them-we even had one of DH and my grandmother who was the last living grandparent, so we posted that. She passed before we could get engaged. Our families really liked and appreciated that.

Re: How have people recognized the non-living?
My younger sister passed away, and my brother and sister both lit a candle at the ceremony in her honor. I would like to do the same, but also perhaps display a photo of her somewhere, along with my passed grandparents.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS!
I'm definitely going to use this. It'll be a great way to remember our families as well as my best friend who died last year.

Angel pins. We got pins and attached them to a card that we passed out with our programs at the church.
The heading on the cards was 'In Loving Memory' and under that we put a short poem (thanks to kittythestray) and their names.

Re: How have people recognized the non-living?
We are just having our officiant say something like ' and we remember all of those who cannot be here with us today'. It covers everyone without being specific you don't forget anyone. Sometimes people end up feeling hurt when specific names are not mentioned.

Re: How have people recognized the non-living?
We had a bit about 'Honoring Our Ancestors' in our ceremony, which talked about loved ones who were with us in spirit. It also talked about how they, and all those who came before us, made us into who we are today.
We didn't want to leave anyone out by mentioning specific names, so we did this instead.
