i am looking into getting my wedding dress and one of my top choices is at David's Bridal I've heard mixed reviews. Do they order a new dress for you ordo you take what's on the rack? How are they with alterations?

Re: How is David's Bridal?
If the dress is i the store, they like you to take that dress, if they order you a new one, it will come from another store.
All of the clothes we buy have been tried on by somone at one time or another. The difference is, wedding dresses are steamed before we wear them. The Davids in Woodbury ? somewhere in Nassau) used to be flooded with brides due to being the only one on the island. The one in Lake Grove has had a decent reputationas far as alterations are concerned.
If it is 'your' dress then go and get it!!!!!

Re: How is David's Bridal?
I did go to David's Bridal to try on gowns and I went to the one in Carle Place and the experience was decent- however if you can avoid going on the weekends it saves you alot of headaches. They have some nice gowns but none were what I was looking for. I felt that I didn't like the ivory and the white was just too white for my complexion.
I know that you can buy it off the rack or if there's time you can have them order it for you. You can insist that they order it for you from what I was told by another bride.
My friend when she got married got her gown from David's and it was beautiful.. also it only took about a month for it to come in as well.
I had my ladies buy their MoH/BM/FG dresses from Davids' but they were locations in TN and NJ but they looked good, were inexpensive, and the dye lots matched even though they got them in diffrent locations.

If you're in Queens or can travel here, call to find out when Tracy L is available at the DB location on Northern Blvd and make an appt with her. She was extremely helpful to me and a pleasure to deal with. I've posted a few times recommending both this DB location and this salesgirl, as I had a great experience, so if you do a search on here, you'll probably see my posts. I was able to order my dress rather than buy off the rack, and my new dress came in a few weeks later. It's been hanging in my closet wrapped in a cotton sheet ever since (they won't hold your dress), and I'm glad I decided to order it when I did...... that style has been discontinued!! I think it was a Fall 07 style, and when they came out with the Spring 08 catalog, my dress disappeared from the website.
As for alterations, I was told to begin my first fitting in July for my November wedding. A few yrs ago, I bought my maid of honor dress for my sister's wedding at the same store, and not only did they do a great job with alterations, they went above and beyond to have a smaller-size dress sent up from Wash. DC only a few weeks before the wedding since I had lost so much weight and the dress I bought was too big. The alterations looked professionally done and came out beautifully.
If you're absolutely positive about the style of dress, you feel your search is over and you've definitely found 'the one,' then I say go for it!!! Good luck!!!!

I actaully didnt want to go there b/c I didnt want a dress from davids bridal (I know that sounds f'd up) but I was forced to starts there (mom adn sister made me) and guess what I feel in love with the third dress I tried on and I am so happy. Congrats on getting your gown! Also great thinking on telling them that it was making or breaking the deal!
