I'm new on the site... Planning my wedding for April 2010. Just wondering and hope u dont mind me asking. where is the funding for your wedding coming from? are u paying for it yourself? family helping? Loan? Savings?
My fiance and i are paying for it ourselves, was wondering on how to come about money saving tips and helping decide our budget... i was thinking about $18000.

Me and FH are paying for it ourselves. We are not touching any of our savings (that will be for our Down Payment on something.) We are just going to save like crazy now.

FH & I are pretty much paying for 80-85% of the wedding costs. My mom, dad & grandparents are planning on giving us some money but we are planning it as if they weren't.
FH's parent's haven't realy offered anything. Probably better off since FMIL would feel like she has control over some of the planning. She can keep her money.

My parents are covering most of the reception gall..unless we go overboard on headcount and then we need to kick in some money. FH and I are paying for the rest. I am a bit lucky b/c I will get 4 decent bonuses for the next 2 years and my tax returns...so I am thinking that will cover the rest of the wedding. And then FH will pay for the honeymoon and rehearsal dinner...and any other odds and ends

I might even look into getting a second job to help cover some of the costs since I don't know how we will be able to save up for moving out & pay for the wedding too.

We are basically paying for it ourselves. Once you have a budget set, you should figure out how much money you need to save each month or paycheck to reach that goal. Having 2 years is definitely a huge benefit for this. To help save we've cut back a lot on going out drinking and eating and stopped spending money on firvilous things. It's hard but I keep thinking that the wedding day will be worth it!

Some places also allow you to pay monthly...to help you save better. My sister did that with the RH. She paid them monthly so she knew what she had to come up with each month to pay it off by the time of the wedding

We're paying ourselves...my parents are giving us a gift of maybe $5,000 or so but they can't afford to give us any more. I think that is generous enough!!
Since I was living on my own and FH moved in with me, we're able to save most of his paycheck.

my parents are paying for the RH. my mom is paying for my dress.
FH is paying for the honeymoon & ceremony location.
FMIL is paying for the flowers & rehearsal dinner
i am paying for: limos, band, video/photo, invitations
(i might have FH put money towards the band since that is the one thing he really wants.)

my parents and FH's parents are splitting the cost of the RH. we're gonna pay for everything else (flowers, dj, photographer, etc. etc. )
oh and my mom paid for my dress....she insisted :)

FH and I are paying for everything except my mom put down the initial deposit for the RH and she will be paying for our e-party and my shower. Hopefully Fh's parents will pay for the RD.
We started a savings account through ING a few months ago to try and save up for the wedding and possibly a down payment on a house later on.

I'm glad I read this string of responses after I initially responded. I was forgetting some of the costs...like the ceremony! I didnt even have that in my budget : ) I think FH will pay for that. And parents paying for the wedding dress, invites and engagement party.

We are paying for everything ourselves...from the RH to my dress we are paying every single penny out of our pockets. I think you can do alot with 18000 but it all depends on where you are having it...For 150 people at my hall it comes out to about 18,850, just for the RH (imagine if more people than that reply yes!!). Add everything on top of that and we are probably looking at 35,000 for everything... (I had to get two other jobs besides my full time one to help make some more money and pay everything off...One permanent part time job and a season soccer training thing one night a week...Gotta make the money somehow!!!)

My parents gave us a budget and anythign over is our responisbility. We are paying for the photographer, limo, florist and honeymoon. FH's parents are paying for the RD and paid for the eparty.
We are pretty lucky and I really appreciate my parents for doing so much.

FH and I are paying for everything ourselves. My parents offered to pay for the bus post reception to take guests to after party or hotel. My Mom is throwing my shower as well. We set a budget early on though, and are saving $3K per month. That's another great thing about a long engagement - you can save and not have to alter your lifestyle too much!

we are paying for it ourselves. we both have some money saved. but we just actually opened and INGdirect account and are saving there too. its going to be hard be neither one of us have money or come from money so we have to save some how.
