I'm looking to have my wedding sept 2010. I already started and got a lot of prices and stuff. But after talking to some people they think that it might be too early. Primarily because it's hard to give a hall a guarantee for something that is 2 years away. I can't tell who will still be in the area, who will be away at college, who might become married or engaged etc.

I booked my hall a week after getting engaged... but we did book it to be 11 months later.... I say you do have some time BUTTTTTTTT days fill up FASTER than you think!!! If you want a specific day/month... I say book it soon so you get exactly what you want.

We planned everything within 8 months. Got engaged in early December and didn't plan a single thing until mid February, and got married October 4th. We were semi-flexible on our date. We knew we wanted something between mid-Sept and mid-Oct so that gave us 4 weekends to play around with.

I think starting now is good and keep calling to make sure that your date isn't filling up. We booked ours 16 months in advance because the date we really wanted was already taken. If you have a good idea of your guest list, you should be fine as long as it's the minimum.

I would book now. Sept fills up fast. A lot of girls on here have booked 2 years in advance. If you find somewhere where you like, book the date you want. It may not be there if you hold off.
I forgot to answer your question...we booked 1 month after our engagement and 11 months before our wedding.

I booked a couple weeks after getting engaged.
We got engaged in Sept 08 and getting married March 2010 so 18 months in advance

We got engaged Christmas of '07 and booked our hall like 3 weeks later. So I would have booked my hall 2 years in advance

I was engaged in February and we had the RH booked by March of 2008. Wedding is in July 2009. You're usually okay with a year in advance.

i'd say the earlier the better. you'd be surprised how many places have a lot of dates already booked for 2010.

I wouldn't worry about your minimum. You know how many people you are close with. That number probably won't change much. It may be some different people here and there along the way but roughly the same amount. If you find a place you like. Book it. Don't wait.

We booked about a month and a half after we got engaged, and it only took that long because FH can be a real PITA about decisions. There were spreadsheets and powerpoints involved, long story.
But I would def seriously look now. A year and 9 months is not really that far in advance anymore.

Personally, I would wait. I don't buy the 'lock rates in' argument...especially in the current economy. Unless you HAVE to have a specific date, I would take my time.
You'll get the best deal if your semi flexible. We just knew we wanted at least a 10 month engagement...and we had various dates to choose from at EVERY hall we went to except for Westbury Manor. They seem to book really quickly.

We got engaged Dec 23 2007... booked the royalton in Jan or Deb of 2008... and the wedding is November 6th 2009. So that's almost 2 years in advance. We then started booking some of our other vendors. We had plenty of time so it was more of a relaxing experience... and also, we did not run into a single problem with any date conflicts... it was nice to not have that over our heads.
