My DH thinks I'm being irrational because I want him to take off a day from work to move in after closing.
We don't have a set date yet, but the conversation came up last night.
he owns his own company so he insists that if we close on a Mondya we won't move unitl Sat when he's off!!!!
I wanted him to take on day off and move all the big stuff so we could spend the night,,, then my family and I could transport boxes etc..during the week.
He says his business comes first.. Am I wrong to be pissed!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know that one day will be my friends and mom cleaning but I'm paying so much money I just want to move in!!!!!!!!!!!!

We waited a month. Honestly, we had work and other stuff going on and we still had our apartment for a month so we were in no rush. But when we finally moved in we did take days off because almost every weekend was booked. DH and I actually fought over it once because the only weekend day we had free to move was Father's Day and he had to see his dad so instead we had to use a vacation day to move. Even though I am sure his dad would have understood. I would have to say - I would wait for the weekend too if work is that impt to him...it is only a coupel of days longer!

Honestly we didnt move in for a month b/c of our wedding! I wouldnt be upset with him! I was the same way, I wanted to move in ASAP. We closed on Wednesday but didnt get the keys for another 4 days! If it were me, I would plan the next day to get your mom and who ever you want to clean and bring in some kitchen stuff and other essentials. Then if its really important to you, see if any of your friends have an air mattress. Our furniture wasnt delivered when we got back from our HM so we stayed 2 nights on an airmattress! It was nice to just be able to stay in our own home! I think as women we are more emotional and the excitement gets the best of us, whereas our DHs are more practical! Thats what I think from our discussions before we closed!!

Why don't you just spend the week cleaning and preparing the place for the move for the weekend?
If he has to work.. he has to work. There isn't much else you can do unfortunately.

We had to wait 3 weeks from closing. We wanted to refinish the floors and get all the painting done (well that is still not completely done) but for us the floors were our major hold up. Jess, if you waited this long (this is what I used to say to myself as I got frustrated) what is 5 more days, wait to the weekend. You can spend the week getting used to the house, cleaning, gardening or anything else you want to do!!

It's so hard waiting..I think the fight really goes deeper into what's more important me or work...

We waited about a month too. We had to have the floors redone and schedule the movers etc. Plus we had our apt for a month and a half after closing so no rush.

We got the keys at closing and drove right to our condo. We moved a ton of stuff in that same day. We slept there for the first time the next night.

Jess, I am sure but remember the 5 days you will miss will be nothing compared to the years you spend there. I know I had the same pressure. I had EVERYTHING unpacked in 2 days that we needed. Kitchen was set up, clothes unpacked etc. The only thing not done is hanging pictures and the like because I am waiting for my furniture to be delievered. But I put so much pressure on myself to have it ALL done immediately-- not fun. Enjoy the process!!!!
Besides if you are really in a rush I can come over and make you get it done--lol

The next day. We are closing Monday and moving in on Tuesday. The only reason we are able to do this is because the homeowner is letting us do all the stuff to the house while she still owns it. Today we are re-finishing the floors and the house is completely freshly painted. I cant wait!!!!
