How long between ceremony and reception?

How long between ceremony and reception?

Hey Bridal experts,

How long did you have between the wedding and the reception? How long does it take to do photos?

We have a 10:30 church time (Full mass) and a 12:00 reception, we'd have to travel from Ronkonkoma to Port Jeff.

OR, we have a 10:30 church (Ronkonkoma) and 1:30 reception out in Wading River.

Am I delusional to think that we can make the 12:00? We do not want to do pictures before the ceremony--I don't want him to see me before those doors open in the church!!!

Thanks girls!

I'd DEF do the 1:30.. it takes alot longer than you would think to take pics..

That's what I thought, but of course the 12:00 hall said 'No problem, it's doable' and this really nice photographer last night at the bridal expo told me that 12 would probably be impossible, if I want to even get a glimpse of my coctail hour.

So it's more money but I think we have to try for the 1:30.

I'm confused.. the 12:00 hall?

We are deciding between two reception halls... one has a 12-5 time slot open and the other has 1:30-6:30 time slot open.

The hall with a 12-5 room would probably be impossible to do, coming from a 10:30 church ceremony at least a half an hour's drive away.
I wasn't sure of the timing... but I'm leaning towards the 1:30 time slot, even though it's a little more expensive.

Sorry for the confusion, it's been a long day!! :)

10:30 is their earliest. I don't know if they would move it up to 10 for me... I kind of doubt it, they seem pretty strict...

We are getting married at the reception site, so we only have the cocktail hour for pictures. Our photographer says it won't be a problem. But then again, we won't be able to go somewhere else to do pics (arboretum, etc.). So it is doable, but depends on what you want.
Might be nice to have a little more of a break to take more pictures.

I don't think that is enough time. We have three hours inbetween. We are hoping to have all of the pics done so that we can make it to the coctail hour.

I would go with the later of the two times.

Definitely the later time...I have a 3:30 church (just a ceremony) and a 7:00 reception time (about 1/2 hour travel time plus time for pics)...

definately the later time...

I would have the reception start at 1:30pm...you don't want to rush during pictures and I'm sure you don't want to miss the cocktail hour.

2:30 church time, 6:30 cocktail hour and 7:30 reception. need time inbetween to travel to reception hall and take pics. Hall said that if gutes start arriving early he would open the cocktail room at 6!! i thought that was nice!!

I have a similar problem. My church is at 2:30 and my cocktail hour is at 6:30. I am worried about what people would do for two in between. Some of my guests have told me they will go home after the church and get 'Snazzed up' while others may go to a bar. And I'm sure there are plenty that will sadly just skip the church all together. I don't think we can really avoid that.

Re: How long between ceremony and reception?

if you really wanted the 12 hall, you could:

a. not have a full mass

or

b. miss a little cocktail

My church (full mass) was at 2. My cocktail hour was at 6:30 and I was late to cocktail cause of pics but the pics will be there forever...I am so glad I spent the amt of time taking pics that I did.

Re: How long between ceremony and reception?

I would talk to the photographers you are thinking of using to see how long it will take to take the pics. Also, it depends on how larger your bridal party and family is. Have you given any thought to taking your pics before the ceremony? Although I didn't care for Bart Stevens, he suggested this and now we like the idea. He said, you will be walking down the ailse with a veil and 1-2 parents on either side of you, carring a bo-k, your FH is at the alter looking down the ailse, all he sees in uncle lester with his big camera trying to take a pic of you. You might also want to take test run to see how long it takes to get from the church to each hall.
