how long did it take for......

How long did you spend taking pictures after your ceremony?.....

this is my situation. We are having our ceremony at then Douglaston Manor at 5:30 and the cocktail hour right now is scheduled for 6:00. I am a little worried that immediately after the ceremony we will spend so much time taking pictures on the grounds that I am gonna miss the cocktail hour. I want to be able to enjoy my cocktail hour and go down and start making 'the rounds' too.

I was thinking if I moved the ceremony to 5pm and it was over at 5: 30......what would the people do until 6pm when the cocktail hour starts? Ugh. Help...any advice, suggestions or share what you have already done or plan to do???

I would talk to your hall because maybe they can serve drinks during that time in the bar or maybe they would allow you to have an hour & half cocktail hour. I would talk to them.

Is there a bar there? My guests will probably have extra time and they'll go to the hotel bar before the cocktail hour starts.

I am getting married at my reception hall so I am paying an extra $6 per person and having an hour and a half long cocktail hour. That way I'll have time to take pics and spend a little bit of time at the cocktail hour also.

Well... the way I figured it is that I only get one day, one chance, to get my pictures which is the only thing that lasts from all the wedding stuff you spend so much money. So... I scheduled in a 3 hour gap for my pictures and thank GOD I did. Not only did I need it for the photos, but also because my limo ended up being late so my ceremony started almost 1/2 hr late. If I only had a 1/2 hr for pics, it would have been GONE right there.

We went to OWG for pics so we took about an hour there, then another 1/2 hr or so at grounds and inside our hall.

Guests are used to the gap. They will find something to do. Anyway, you are talking about a half hour. I wouldn't worry about it. Take the time for you pictures. Many halls do a greeting of champagne and strawberries while they wait for the CH to start - you can ask about that.

this is why we're taking pics before the ceremony, for 2 hours. There are no 'do overs' and I want to ensure that there are many protrait shots in my proofs

It would have been great to see FH's facial expression when I first walk down the aisle, but having all those extra pics was more important to us.

I think about an hour and a half. Although it was supposed to be 1 hour, it ran over.

I agree-pics b4 the ceremony. I had about 3+ hours to take pics b4 the ceremony and that was more than enough. We got to the hall early and had time to chill out a little.

I say do the pics before the ceremony. Your makeup and hair will be fresh also!!!!

It's best to take pics before the cermony so you aren't rushing and your hair and makeup are fresh (it'll show in pics if you aren't relaxed). The not seeing each other thing is a throw-back to arranged marriages from what I know anyway!

The photographers I spoke to seem to want 2 hours before and about 45 min in between if you're not seeing each other before...

Ask your hall and photographer for ideas- they are the pros!

Good luck!

maybe Im being old school about this but it is very important for me not to see my fi before the ceremony. I want the first time he sees me in my dress be when Im walking down that aisle.
So my ceremony is at 11 and my cocktail hr starts at 1 and is 45 min away. but my ceremony will only be about a half hr and im not doing a receiving line b/c of time. so i will get to my hall around 12:30. I will probably miss my cocktail hr but so what usually the bride isn't at the cocktail hr anyway.

FH and I are giving serious thought to taking pics before the ceremony. Because my parents are divorced and my father is remarried, we have an extra set of pictures to take and I'm afraid that it will take too long after the ceremony.

Here's our layout...
Video at 3
pics at 4
ceremony at 6
cocktail hour at 6:30-7:30
reception 7:30-11:30

I am going to have my FH come and get me from the bridal suite and walk with me to the grounds so he is the first one to see me. I wanted him to see me for the first time when I walked down the isle but there is not enough time.

We saw each other before our ceremony to take our pics, b/c we wanted to enjoy our cocktail hour as well. After our ceremony, CH immediately followed, and our photographer still spent about a good 25 minutes taking pictures of just us, before we knew it, we never made it to cocktail hour and pretty much missed it all........

We are meeting at the arboretum before the ceremony to take pictures, and to have some private time before the whirlwind of our day starts. We are very private people, so when he sees me for the first time, I want to be 'alone' with him - and the photographer and videographer I don't want us to see each other for the first time that day in front of a room full of people.
