How long do you and FH want to wait for...

How long are you and FH 'planning' on waiting to have kids?

For those already married: how long did you plan on waiting and did you hold out (meaning, did you wait that long or did your time frame change??)

FH is thinking about 3 years...I'm thinking 2..I'd like to have our first before 30

We will probably wait 4-5 years! I will be 25 but I want to not only be more financially secure (we are buying a house shortly) but also emotionally ready.

At FH's christmas party, 2 mothers kept telling me to wait and enjoy our time together becuase once you have kids thats it, its never just about you and your DH again! And they are right! So I want to enjoy just the 2 of us and possibly travel too!

I'm going to try Aug/Sept time.

I figured I'll be prego during the fall/winter and have the baby just before the summer time... Now if my plan works, I'll be very happy..

lol that post reminds me of my brother, he wanted to name my neice (if a boy) Anthony Jacob. As a swedish/german Lutheran family it would be pretty silly, but to each his own!

ETA-- we are waiting about 2 years, I could wait longer, but FI is impatient.

I am 30 but we do want to wait a few years. We just bought a one br co-op and are really enjoying being with each other. I think 3 years is good. I suggested that we wait until it is medically possible for him to have the baby but , he did not like that idea.

I'll be only 23 when I get married, so I will want to wait about 5 years.

Irishbride: my best friend and her husband are 11 years apart..they just had their first last year when he was 38....and they are having #2 in May

We are still discussing this issue.
Having kids is such a hard commitment. I think if I had a choice I wouldn't have kids at all but everyone says that that is a decision that I will regret, and than it might be too late. My FI thinks I will be bad as a mother, and that is why he doesn't want any kids either. I will be 25 when I get married, and I think we will wait like 2 years and than talk about it some more. We already lived together for 4 years, and that is the 'just the two' of us phase. Maybe after 7 years after the 'just the two of us' we'll be ready to take care of someone else.

We really want children but we are going to wait a year or 2. We want to spent time together as husband and wife first.

I'm going to be 28, and I really want my first by 30, but it's a question of finances. I think we both want them - we point out little biracial kids all the time and say things like: 'Look, there's our daughter,' and 'Can't you keep the kids in line?' We also babysit my 8 year old brother.

I originally wanted to wait about 2 years before I actually GOT pregnant, but I also wanted to have the first before I was 30, but my dear FI took his time asking me to marry him, so we'll probably aim for shortly after our 1 year anniversary. I'll be just 30, he'll be almost 30, and hopefully we can have our first baby early in the summer (I'm a teacher). I really wanted to enjoy being married, but we've been together almost 7 years, so we've been able to do a lot together.

We are going to wait about 2 to 3 years. We want a house first and I need to get a better job.

At least 2 years. We want to travel first and enjoy being newlyweds before we start a family.

I will be 30 and FH will be 39 when we get married...we will start right away. FH says his biological clock is ticking and he doesn't have much time!

I'll be just under 4 months shy of 32 when we get married - FH will be just under 4 months shy of 33. We don't have a schedule on when we want things/children...we just know that we want a house first. To be honest, I'm in no rush to have a child. I go back and forth on this almost daily - has nothing to do with age though...more and more women are having healthy children well into their 30's and even 40's. It has more to do with not wanting my relationship with FH to change...not wanting to be my mother...

Then there are days where we want to try for a HM baby!

When we get married I will be 36 and FH just turned 37 last week. Thinking we will go au natural and let nature take it's course.

We want to enjoy being alone together first, but we will probably start trying around one year later. My sister is planning to get married September, 2005so I will probably be pregnant at the wedding. But I have to be careful. If I get pregnant at the wrong time I could wind up missing their wedding. Wait, maybe that's not such a bad thing, considering how much I hate him!! LOL.

I had always hoped to wait at least a year after I was married to enjoyed married life a bit.

Uhmm then I eloped.. My wedding is my one year anniversary so does that mean I wait yet another year?

Jim is already starting up savings for kid's college funds!

So Im just guessing here, but I think he wants kids too. hehe I will be 29 when I walk the aisle he'll be 31. We don't to wait too long. So I guess I'm just gonna see what happens but I so desperately want to go back to school.
