How long do you have to be at a job to get unemployment?

How long do you have to be at a job to get unemployment?

I want to get fired soooo bad but I don't know how long I have to be there. I think 3 months. Does anyone know? TIA

if you are fired you cant get unemployment, you have to be laid off... i was at my job for about 3 weeks when i got laid off and qualified for unemployment, but it was only like $100 a week!

Then that is the only way to get unemployment? I really thought you got it if you were fired

I am just a lurker but saw this and wanted to tell you, that you can collect if fired. Not sure how much time you need accumulated but they also ask for last employers.

amount you receive is based on salary. You may be able to get some info on the NYS unemployment website

things might have changed then since i registered for unemployment, because i remember when i was signing up for it they specifically stated that if you were fired you did not qualify... think about it, if anyone who was fired could get unemployment, there would be a lot more people getting themselves fired so they can sit on their butts collecting unemployment checks instead of working...

I think it depends on what the grounds were for termination.
I have some unemployment paperwork, let me see if I can dig it out and find out some information.

I think you are right. From what I remember if you were insubordinate or did not show up for work and did not contact the employer you don't get it.

Thanks for all your help. I don't know what to do. I HAVE to leave this job for fear of my sanity and health. No exaggeration but DH doesn't understand and won't let me quit until I find another job. I have not been able to find anything That is why I want to get fired

The whole point of you saying you haven't been able to find anything is the exact reason why you shouldn't get yourself fired. What happens if you get canned and you can't find a job for six months? Can the bills be paid on just one salary?

You will not get unemployment if you get yourself fired.

speaking from experience I was fired and collected unemployment, it was not for insuborination(sp) But you can collect if they let you go. A friend was fired for excessive days off and collected, look in to it for yourself. I am sure each case is different.

I was in a job like that last year..it really $ucks and makes you feel like crap I hope you find something else

2 employees at my job were fired for not following company policies and procedures and they both got unemployment because my job did not want to waste their time fighting them. Bttom line you can collect if yu are fired as long as your employer doesnt contest it or you can prove you were wrongly fired
