Re: How long does a Jewish ceremony last???
Technically I think it depends on how traditional it is and how much they are including in the ceremony. I am estimating mine to be 1/2 hr or so

Re: How long does a Jewish ceremony last???
Reception time I assume will be the same length as any other type of wedding reception. Mine was the standard 4 hours. so if the ceremony is at 8:30, it will probably go until 9, then the reception will be after....dont' know if they're having CH or not. It's starts so late because it has to begin after sundown after the sabbath ends.

Re: How long does a Jewish ceremony last???
Our ceremony will be at the RH and they have us scheduled for a 1/2 hour ceremony. Our cocktail hour is 1 hr and the reception is 4 hrs.If the B&G are signing a ketubah (marriage contract), for them it will be a bit longer (BP and parents/family attend), but usually guests aren't present for this, as it happens before the ceremony.

Re: How long does a Jewish ceremony last???
Something to consider ...It depends on how religious they are. Sometimes the Cocktail Hour is BEFORE the ceremony, it gives the guests something to do while the couple is having their Bedeken (where the Groom sees the Bride for the first time, accompanied by other men in the family) and then signing the Ketubah.
So it would be something like cocktail hour 8:30 - 9:30, ceremony from 9:30 - 10 (or 10:30), and then reception afterwards.
If it was a religious ceremony, the whole wedding would probably be at a Temple. Also, the invitation might say something like 'Chuppah promptly at 9:30'

This is mostly true... I had a very orthodox religious ceremomy, lasted about 30-40 minutes. We did the CH before hand with the Tish and the Bedekken. However....my ceremony AND reception was at a catering hall, not a Temple.

Re: How long does a Jewish ceremony last???
A Jewish wedding at the RH is the same time-frame as any other wedding at the RH. My invitation said nothing about 'meeting under he chuppah' -- that is personal preference. So I think the wedding will be over at either midnight or 1 AM, depending on whether or not CH is before or after the ceremony. We had CH after the ceremony, more and more Jewish weddings are this way lately. We saw each other and did pictures before guests arrived, and did the ketubah as guests arrived.
