WOW. it amazes me that you're getting married after one year! Not that it's good or bad, it
s just so strange to me. My relationship with Fh was COMPLETELY different whenw e were only dating a year or two than it is now.

i agree its a little 'off' to marry someone after only a year. but, fh and ii knew that we were going to get married after only a few months. we didn't then (obviously) b/c of $$ reasons. i say more power to you goldi.

Thank you SMM. I don't think it is 'OFF' at all to marry someone after ANY amount of time. If you know that the other person is the one, then you know.

FYI I am not a 'young' bride by the standards of these boards. I am going to be close to 36 by the time I get married as will FH. I have plenty of dating and enough life experience to know what I need and want in a person to spend the rest of my life with. I also know what I DON'T need and want in a person which may be even more important. FH, being an older and more established man (both financially and educationally as well as emotionally and socially) is more prepared to be a far better husband than he was 10 or more years ago. I could say the same for myself as a future wife.

I wanted a mensch and I got one. He STILL opens doors for me. He holds my hand whereever we go. He has held me in his arms every time I have cried over my father's illnesses. This is THE ONE and I have NEVER been more sure about anything else in my life.

My brother dated his first wife for over 5 years most of which was through college - guess what SHES AN EX WIFE!!! My parents dated 6 weeks and will be married 49 years this May (G-d willing with Dad's health being so poor.) My sister dated her husband for 2 months and are still married after 15 years. I don't think that a relationship needs a standard period of gestation to know when it is time to move to the next level. That comes from the heart.

It is important to realize and take into account that we are all at different stages in our lives. What is good for one person is not always the same for the next.

I agree with Goldi. We will be together 2 years in July but moved in together after only 8 months. I'm also an older bride (38) and I think that as you get older you definitely know quicker whether or not, someone is the one. I was never married before but I did have a couple of long term relationships in my 20's where I definitely wasn't sure and this time, after only a few months with FH I knew he was the one.

Goldi -I totally agree with you! I dated someone for almost four years when I was younger, and if I had married him, I would be divorced by now...
When you know its right you just know... I knew after a couple of months that he was the one, and so did he- he told me the other day he was starting to look at rings after we had been going out for 2 months!

Same here - 4 years with the wrong one and I ended up on Paxil. 1 year with FH and I have more confidence in myself as a person and a woman.

Oh and I wanted to say age and stage of life have a LOT to do with it. After a year with FH I was 18. Not realy to make the decision to marry anyone. i wasn't trying to be critical at all, just observing that for some people the time is so small, while for others it's so long.

I totaly agree with you guys!!! , We were just together a year at the end of January (from the first day we actualy met till now) and got engaged Beginning of Feb. I will be 32 when we get married and my son will be 9... I think when you know , you know. It dosnt matter how long you were together. I wasted over 4 years with the last one and it got me know where... Thank GOd it ended when it did!!! We knew right away we were going to get married and here we are... This is one of those things when its 'Quality' not 'Quantity'

We have been dating for almost 2 1/2 years. We also knew early on in the relationship that we would get married. However, we wanted to wait and take our time.

A little over 1 year as in 1 year & 12 days.

I knew the night we had our first date and he knew after three days. We spoke about it after 2 weeks.

Mind you like goldi said it all depends on the point you are in life and your experiences. We are both in our 30's and accomplished all we set out to do by ourselves and now are doing it all together.
