How long is a bridal shower?

I haven't been to one in 2 years and I can't remember how long they should be? What's your opinion 3 or 4hr? I'm thinking four seems like a lot?
And when is an appropriate time how long before ur wedding should u have one?
I'm asking these questions for my moh my little sister who has never been to a wedding in over 10 years!

Most of the time they are 4 hours. Though I've been to showers that were five hours.
I'd say 2-6 months before is fine.

I think my shower was 4 hours and it was 6/2 and we were married 9/15. I'd say 2-6 months before is normal.

My cousin's fiance had hers this past Saturday, and it was 3 hours, which was plenty of time because she wasn't opening gifts. Their wedding is on 7/20, so I think there was plenty of time in between without people thinking it was TOO much time in between.

I work in a restaurant, and all of our private parties are 3 hours, and it's an extra charge for a 4th hour. I believe that's the new standard in private parties at restaurants, but it also depends on how much you want to spend per person.

Mine was 3 hours this past weekend. I opened all my gifts and got to eat and take pictures. It was plenty of time. I think anything over 4 is crazy and your guests will probably be bored.

I think it depends how many people you invite. Mine was 4 hours and we ended up going over by a half hour. (The restaurant was really cool about it though, and didn't charge extra). My shower had about 50 people though, so there was a lot of gifts and a lot of mingling.

I think you would need 4 hours if you want to open all of the presents and not feel rushed. Definitely 2-6 months before the wedding should be good.

My friend had her bridal shower Memorial Day weekend- it was 3 1/2 hours and she's getting married July 5th. I think 3- 3 1/2 hours is the perfect amount of time. Not too long but not rushed either!

I think the norm for any kind of shower is 4 hours. Keep in mind that gifts usually take longer than you think to open and if you keep the shower moving with games in between food & gifts to keep people engaged, four hours will fly by in no time.

i think 4 hours.

IMO 3 hrs is for like a birthday party or something where you dont open gifts in front of people

mine was 4 hours.. if you are opening your gifts in front of people i think 3 hours is not enough time.

As long as you watch the time, you should be fine. Presents shouldn't take longer than 45 minutes and that's if you're stopping and reading each card intensely and opening the presents yourself. Most girls have their bridal party pretty much in an assembly line to help open everything.

I don't think you need more than 3 hours unless you want the extra time.

I agree. I had around 65 people there and I was able to open all my gifts in the 3 hours, mingle, and eat (i was also 20 minutes late!). As long as your girls help out it's possible. My maids were awesome. One opened the card, the other brought card and gift to me, one collected garbage, one wrote down what was from who, and the others took the unwrapped gifts back to the table.

I think 4 hours is standard but I feel like your reception is 4 hours and the bridal shower should not be as time consuming! I'm doing a backyard BBQ/Hawaiian theme so it will be a start time and a 'whenever you leave' time.. I'll probably invite about 50 women..
