How long would you travel for reception?

How long would you travel for reception?

My Church is located in Queens and a few of the reception venues we are looking at are 55 minutes away. Would you travel that far for a Saturday night wedding?

We only have a hand full of OOT guests and those would stay at other families homes. The rest of our guests live in NYC, Brooklyn and northern Jersey.

What is the max travel time that we should consider?

I would travel about an hour. Are you planning on blocking rooms at a hotel near by the reception?

We are in the same boat, our church is about an 45minute to 1 hour away from the reception, but we block hotel rooms out near the reception. We will be staying there along with some of the guests.

All of the people we invited didn't seem to have a problem with it. So if this is the place you love for your reception, I'd say go for it!! HTH

It's only one day..It may be alittle inconvenient for some but I don't think it should be a big deal...If you are important enough to me I would make sure to be there. It's your day and the people that should be there will be there!!

I kept that in mind too when searching. I was lucky that the place that I fell in love with is less than an hour from my family & friends in Brooklyn and Long Island. My OOT guests are staying at the rooms that we have blocked and we are most likely going to do a brunch the morning after. But, to answer your ? YES. I would travel at least an hour.

What month are you looking at? I had to travel to the Vineyard carters from the Bronx for a good friend's wedding a couple of years ago on a Sat. afternoon in July and it took nearly 2 hours for us to get there it was miserable. Keep in mind that traffic especially on weekends in the summer can be a Bi**h.
I think an hour away is the max. distance you should look but that is JMO.

Are you talking about travel from home or travel between the church ceremony and the reception?

For travel from home, I've been to a wedding 1 to 1.5 hours away and though everyone complained, everyone came and had a great time!

I agree with NayNay. I went to a wedding in Punta Cana last year and my brother is getting married in Iowa this year. Yea, of course, we would like the reception to be close to home, but that's not what's important. Those that care about you, will make the trip whether the distance between the church and RH is 5 minutes or 5 hours. And if I wasn't that close with the person, I think 45 minutes is fine.

I have traveled about 45 mins. to an hour from ceremony to reception before, and it was nothing . . . . I was excited to get to the party and barely noticed, and I wasn't in the wedding! That's not too long.

OH, if you meant, travel to wedding generally, that depends. We were going to go to India for my friend's wedding, but I couldn't because of work. We did fly to Kentucky for her stateside nuptials, and I've traveled back home to LI for everything over the years. It all depends. But if people are in town, or traveling in to attend the wedding, the distance between ceremony and reception is not a big concern (I just would keep it near an hour).

Re: How long would you travel for reception?

I'm making my guests trave 2 hours.

Reason being I have a large family who all live in Brooklyn and they have many many extended friends and relative I rather not come. I have to invite everyone though.

I'm hoping to weed people out, and hoping only those that care enough to travel 2 hours one way for me will come.

I'm already getting RSVPs from people I didn't expect, but I do understand why they would very much like to be there.

I wanted a destination wedding originally, but my grandparents wouldn't be able to travel too far, so this is the compromise.

You'd be surprised what people will do to be at your wedding, I know. We all think we have to accommodate people and it's an inconvenience, because we put so much work and planning into it, but it's really just a fantastic dressy upscale party that people are usually pretty excited to go to!! I bet everyone comes to your wedding!!!

I know, I worry about everyone coming too! But I really want them all there at the same time!!! It ***** not to be exceedingly wealthy.

I went to a wedding like that. The cermony took place in the bride's childhood church in Manhattan and the reception was an hour (or more) away at Majestic Gardens. The bride and groom rented a bus for anyone that didn't have a car. It wasn't a big deal but i think more than an hour is asking too much.

Re: How long would you travel for reception?

I'll answer the question as if you're my family member!

an hour seems long at first but considering that most people are clearing off their entire day to celebrate with you anyway then it shouldn't be that big of a deal. the ones that truly want to be there will. the only thing i'm concerned with is that maybe a few people may not show up to the ceremony and just the RH. but either way, i think it'll work out for the best.
