and have dogs. Im getting one tomorrow and both my FI and I work full time jobs. I just want to know that we're not the only ones that will have to leave it for 8 hours a day.

you're not alone. FI and I both work full-time. our dog winnie just sleeps all day. i wouldn't worry. are you getting a dachshund? i had one growing up. good luck!

Im not getting a dachshund. thats my parents dog, but I still consider it my dog. We are getting a puggle. Ill pics of her in a little while.

We both work but when we first got our puppy we took turns coming home at lunch to let him out. The can only hold it for like 3-4 hours when they are little. At like 7 months he was ok to be home all day. I love puggles!!!!

Oh, FH and I both have Full time jobs, but I work midnights, and he works during the day, so... someone is pretty much always home with Bella...

we both work full time. I am the last to leave in the AM at 730 and my DH is home by 4. When Casey was a tiny puppy he came home at lunch to walk her. Now she is fine for the time we are at work.

We both work full-time. Now that Gizmo is getting old (he is 13 years old) if we leave him alone for 8 hours a day he sometimes has accidents. I usually stop home during lunch since I work less than 10 minutes from home to let him out. Some people have wee wee pads for their dogs to use indoors.

we both work...And our little martin stays home... I think that biggest challenge for you will be training him/her to go outside. WHen we first got martin my DH worked evening hours so he was home during the day..

Us too. DH leaves at 6:30 am for work, then I watch the dogs & feed them breakfast. Then I go to work anywhere between 7:30am & 8:00am. Dogs are alone until Dh gets home at around 4:30pm.

We both leave the house around 7:40 and get home around 6:30. When we first got our puppy, DH would come home at lunch, but after maybe 1 week and a half, his work got too busy and he just wasnt able to do it anymore. So Lucy is left all day and we havent had an accident in more than 2 months (she is 6 months old now) However, we do not crate train and after first we did have some destruction issues! She attacked a plant, the christmas tree and some misc decorations. But after she got her 'big girl' teeth, she has been good, she has plenty of toys, her water and her bed. The only thing she does now is move the welcome mat EVERYDAY, she adds it to her bed and makes a big puffy area to hang out! And we cant leave our shoes out because she eats shoelaces! My dog apparently has shoe fetish!

We both work and leave the puppy alone for nearly 11 hours. I felt terrible in the begining, but the Vet reassured me that she would be ok. We are crate training her. When she is out of the crate she notifies us that she has to go out and has no accidents. But she goes a lot in the crate. The vet said she was a little too young (3 months) to understand that the crate is her home. And she is too young to hold it. Hopefully this will get better in time.

Bella is 4 months old. She knows to sit, give her paw, go make (bathroom), get her bone, toy or ball.. Yes, she does know the difference!! She knows cookie, and to eat her food. she does go to the bathroom on the wee pads still, b/c we are in an apartment, but we try to go out everyday. She still has accidents when we aren't paying full attention to her, but usually she is Very good!!! I love when I get home from work and she treats me as if I haven't seen her for days. And she loves to sleep in my lap and on my head!!!!

We both work but husband goes home everyday for lunch to be with him!! LOL
Somedays he goes to grandmas house to change it up!!
We both work. The first few days I came home at lunch. She was good about not going in her crate. BUT make sure you crate her if you're gunna be gone for 8 hours.

Our dog Casey (5yr old collie mix) stays home alone all day. She has lots of toys and my guess is she sleeps all day. I feel guilty but now that we are in the suburbs at least she has a house and a yard instead of a little apartment in the city. She is a little on the plump side so i make sure to give her long walks in the evenings for exercise....

My neighbors both work and have a dog, they put her in doggy day care 2 or 3 times a week so she doesn't get too lonely and/or bored.
Also, switching between leaving the radio (classical or soothing music) and the t.v. (pbs is best) on each day helps. Ups the electric bills but makes a much happier pet!
