How many houses did you bid on?

How many houses did you bid on?

Until your bid was accepted?

So funny..even FSBO are playing the game.
Even this way, people are bidding over asking price and I'm getting outbid. haha

I've bid on & lost 3 houses. I'm thinking '6' will be the lucky number !

When do we expect to have the market open up ???

I think you also have to ask yourself 'where your offers realistic?' While I know bidding wars are happening if you are really interested in a house and want that house badly enough you might want to consider making an offer that would be acceptable right off the bat. When we bought our house we mad a full price offer and it was a done deal. Now not all sellers are the same but most are happy getting the asking price and a buyer who is very qualified.

ETA: Obviously this works if the seller isn't totally insane with what they are asking for. While our house was no bargain, it wasn't overpriced in my opinion. You also have to ask yourself 'how badly do I want this house?'

What are you offering to get out bid?

Re: How many houses did you bid on?

Haven't had an accepted offer yet...but have bid on 3.

1st house - 10% below asking...

2nd house - 2% below asking...

3rd house - it's on one of those annoying scales with a $90k slide!! we bid $11k above the lowest $ - which, in our opinion, is more than fair considering the logistics.

ETA: Was just called with a counter offer for $35k more than what we offered and $15k less than their high $. I told the RE that our original offer is best and final.

Keep your chin up...the longer it takes, the more $$$ you've got saved up.

We bid on 4.

For two of them, we wouldn't come up b/c the house wasn't worth what they were asking.

For one of them, we had the highest bid but the owner decided to sell to someone else. (I'll still never understand that one)

#4 - Bid was accepted and we are closing this month.

Good luck!! It will happen.

Sorry, the last three houses I've bid at least $5,000 OVER asking price. Others are bidding $15,00 OVER asking price.
It's insane out there!!

Re: How many houses did you bid on?

I think we bid on 7, of those we had 4 accepted offers (3 we walked away from).

#1 - got into a bidding war and we walked away refusing to battle it out

#2 - was accepted, we walked after inspection

#3 - was accepted, we changed our mind

#4 - we were outbid

#5 - was accepted, but we decided it was too small

#6- they already had a first accepted offer and went with that

#7 - our house!

ETA: all these offers were below asking price

We bid on 2 and got both. I think we had very good terms and also we just happen to hit them at a great time. I think timing is everything.

Re: How many houses did you bid on?

We bid on two. First one we bid 10% below asking price and the owner wanted asking price. This house we bid 10% below then got into bidding war with 5 other couples. The couple who lived in the house were an elderly couple who lived in it for 45 years and just wanted a couple who would take care of it. They only wanted the asking price....us and 4 of the couples went to that and they picked us because we were young and starting out.

They left us a lot of there furniture too!

Wow, so it isn't even like you are coming in lower. That *****!

Hang in there, it is worth it in the end.

We bid on 5.

#1 - They already had an offer that they had accepted said we'd be back-up.

#2 - Bid 10% less and was accepted. Lost the house because we couldn't go to contract as quickly as they wanted.

#3 - Bid asking price and lost to a bid over asking price (that house is back on the market).

#4 - Bid asking price and lost to a cash deal.

#5 - Offer accepted at 10% less than asking and we're in contract.

Maybe 5 is the magic number

We did the same thing, we lost out in a bidding war on a house we loved, were so depressed, didn't think we would find ANYTHING we liked as much...but went the following weekend and found our home, we offered asking right away, we figured since most of the houses in our area were going for over 400k, a house for less than that was reasonable!! We are set to close April 30th!!

We got the first place we bid on. But, we looked a tons of places and felt very ready and put in a loan with provisions to show how serious we were.

so far we have bid on 3.....our third was accepted, but then the sellers backed out.

I went from ....to and

back to square one....this is not so fun.

Re: How many houses did you bid on?

#1 they accepted our offer but it was a back-up in case their first offer fell through
#2 we offered about $40,000 less and we knew they weren't going to accept it but we didn't love the house. Anyway, when our agent called to let us know that our offer hadn't been accepted she told us that house #1 was available b/c their first offer fell through. And that's the house we are closing on hopefully by the end of this month.
We looked at about 30 houses and only put offers on 2.
