Posted by Jenn P I know just the thought of two college educations gives me a headache and we're not even TTC the first kid yet.
That's what worries me the most. I want to be able to give my child(ren) everything my parents gave me, and the cost of EVERYTHING is growing by leaps and bounds.
Patrick wants 2, so I'm sure there will be MUCH negotiating going on around here in about 18 months.

Re: How many kids do you have/want??? poll
I thought that since Joe was an only child that he would definitely want more then one child, but right now he's telling me he only wants Gianna! I really don't want her to grow up an only child -- I have a sister and yes, we fought like cats and dogs, but at least I had somebody to fight with! And the funny thing is my BIL, who is an only child also, doesn't want to have another one either!!! I don't get it. I would think if you grew up alone, you would want a brother or sister, no?
Shamma, and anyone else who is an only child, don't you wish you grew up with a sibling?
All I know is I don't have much time to be having this argument, so he better change his mind ASAP or be in for some surprise sometime soon!!

Debbie: I am an only child and YES YES YES I wish I had grown up with a sibling. I wasn't lonely, but I have seen my friends with their sisters/brothers and I wish sometimes that I could have that type of bond with someone. My Dad remarried and has a daughter but we've never lived together and we're 12 yrs apart, so we really don't have a strong 'sisterly' bond.

Marcela, that's like Joe. His father remarried twice and has three other sons, but Joe only sees the youngest, who is 15. They are close, or as close as you can be 20 years apart. But it's not the same, I agree with you!!
Granted, my sister can work my every nerve and can pi$$ me off like no other (we're complete and total opposites), but she's still my sister and I'm glad she was around to fight with!!

Debbie, to answer your question, not really. I was always very close with my parents and of course I had my friends. I got that much extra attention from my parents. I always thought you can't miss it unless you had it but since I'm in the minority that must not always be true.

Jenn, you're not in the minority!! I think it goes both ways and depends on how your childhood was. My DH was the KING to his mother and grandmother and he LOVED it (he still is). I think that's why he wants Gianna to be an only child, so that we can focus all our love and attention on her alone.
When you have children, will you have more then one?

If $ were not an issue, I would have as many as I could - 2,5,8,12! But because I will need to work full-time, I'd like 2.
Jenny 11.9 your baby is soooo gorgeous!!!

I'd never want to have one b/c being an only child I was always lonely and even now I miss having a sister or brother. There's nothing like family!
I am anonly child and I agree, i have always wished for a sister/brother and taking care of my parents when they get older is all on me.
Also my ex passed in an accident & he was an only child and I see what his parents went through, they will never see a wedding, have grandkids etc

ALthough this has been posted before, and Ive answered it before..I'll answer again
Im sure it can get expensive (but hopefully we learn to adapt with what we have in life) but there's something I adore and admire about large families. Im one of 4 siblings and loved growing up in a full house.. so who knows... as many children as God will bless me with...
Id LOVE twins too ... ITs the best thing in the world to be a twin
Iagree.. but my husband would disagree.. hes an identical twin!!! We want at least 4 5 is Ideal, but whatever God will bless us with!!!!!

Debbie, in spite of what I said I think I'd like two. If either DH or I ever need help in our old age, I don't want it to be the responsibility of only one person. My mom is a widow and honestly, it scares me that if one day she's not totally independent it's all on me to see that she's cared for. (Of course, the thought of her being old and frail is far scarier than the idea that I'd have to care for her, but I think you get my point!)
I'll probably find myself in your shoes at some point in the next few years. DH wants only one but I'll just have to work on him. Joe is unusual in that most men I know would want to try for a boy, although that little girl certainly seems to have him wrapped around her finger....
However many you end up with, your daughter is the picture of perfection and you have much to be proud of.

Re: How many kids do you have/want??? poll
My DH and I both grew up one of two. My DH lost his brother 6 1/2 years ago, and now he is an only child (he has 2 half sisters but they didn't grow up together and are not close). Because of our experience, we think we want 3. Besides, I can't imagine having only one more pregnancy - I love it too much. We'll see how I feel after the birth

I'd like 3- 2 girls and a boy. DH wants 4, 2 of each. Since we haven't even started yet, I don't think that's happening. We may adopt too.

I'd like to have a boy and a girl, if I don't by 2 children I would try for a third but think I'd stop there no matter what God blesses me with.
