How many married couples have life insurance outside of their job?
DH and I are considerng Life Insurance. We both receive it through our job, but we are thinking of getting a personal policy.
Just wondering how many people have done this too.

i am not married yet, but i have a life ins policy and so does fh, thru prudential. i have 2 whole life ins policies and also life ins thru work as well. i look at them as investments for the future. i pay maybe $80 a month combined for both.

Me and FH both do. We own property together so if something should happen to one of us then the life insurance will pay it off.

We do--We pay about $1,300/year for my husband's.
It would probably help you if you talked to a life insurance agent. They can guide you in how much you need in insurance and what type (whole, term, etc).
And depending on the amount of insurance you get, you have to do some medical exams.

I have 2 policies. They are whole life, so I pay into them. They total 250,000. They are more expensive than term life but at least you get to keep the money if you dont die. My mom opened one for me years ago and I opened another for myself last year. Through work I have term life for another 260,000.

I will be getting prsonal policy soon thru my BIL who sells all types of insurance. I also will be getting it thru work .

i get it from work, and they gave me the option to upgrade higher which i did..

The drawbacks to only having a policy through work are:
If you lose (or change) your job you lose the policy. If you have the option to continue it privately the rates tend to be very high.
Also, life insurance is cheaper when you're younger and if your health takes a turn for the worse you may not be able to get it, so it's a good idea to get some when you're young and healthy.

my husband and i just got it becuase we bought a house. i also sell life insurance but that is not why i got it. iwant to protect each other god forbid something happens. my husband was at 9-11 so that alone is a good enough reason. fm me if you want a quote i can look it up at work tomorrow.
