my mom wants to buy me glasses so i started a registry in macys. if you register there you get 5-10% back in gift cards 4 months after your wedding. if my mom buys the sets of glasses i am looking at $30-60 of gift cards off the bat - so i totally recommend starting there if people want to get you engagement gifts.

We just went to Macy's yesterday and set up the registry. We didn't actually register. Acutally, there is one thing on the registry- the cake server that matches our toasting glasses! It was so much fun and Macy's gives you so much info. I got 3 bridal magazines and a really nice totebag for registering!

We haven't registered yet - probably not for a bit. I'm not sure where I want to register. Either Fortunoffs or Macy's. Maybe Williams Sonoma (I love that store - but a bit pricey).

FH wants to register at Best Buy (I don't think they have one). He is such a dork. I tried to explain to him that we need to register for things we NEED like pots, plates, silverwear and not video games (haha)

We're thinking of registering over the summer (so about 1 year before).

I don't think its to early...I think it depends on your family situation...if they're asking you if you want specific gifts, I would register. We both have small families that gave us a lot of nice basic stuff so we figured we'd wait to register to see what we need.

I am a Planner for Bed, Bath and Beyond, and take it from me, a lot of our 'hot items' specifically in bedding and bath are usually discontinued in a year b/c they are so seasonally and trend driven. With that said, you may want to hold off on registering for as long as possible (or at least start with basic houseware stuff first - ie - pots, pans, electrics, etc).

I just put up a new topic on registering for engagement parties, take a look and let me know what you gals think.

Re: How many of the 2006 brides...

I registered RIGHT after we got engaged and I'm SO glad we did. A lot of people wanted to buy us gifts and it really minimized getting gifts we couldn't use (which happens a lot). I've already got 3 place settings and an oval tray of my fine china and some plates from my casual china along with a coffee pot and some other items, so i'm REALLY gald I registered early. I think as soon as you know your china pattern you should register for that because it's the first thing people look for to buy, also really tried and true things you know you'll need and won't change, like coffee pot, iron, toaster oven, etc. it's not likely that the 12 cup farberware coffee pot is going to be discontinued or upgraded, etc. The only thing to hold off on would be linens and towels and stuff like that. I did put on a bathroom accessories set because I LOVE it, and I just watch it. With Fortunoff you get an email when something is discontinued so you can buy it then. I know if my set was diswcontinued between our moms and my sister they'd buy it for us right off the bat, so I am a BIG fan of registering early. Also in my family people like to buy birthdya adn christmas gifts off the registry, so that's why I've been able to accumulate, and I'm so happy I have!

We are registering next weekend at Crate and Barrel. I plan to register at Macys also, but I think that will wait until after we do some other things...like get a photographer!

I will be registering come March...I don't want to do it too early just bc we aren't 100% sure as to what we need bc it depends on if we get the house we want....

Re: How many of the 2006 brides...

We registered a month after we were engaged - my FMIL kept harassing us to do it because everyone kept asking her where we were registered. We're registered at Fortunoff's, Bloomingdales and Crate and Barrel and we've actually gotten quite a bit off of them already!

We registered a few weeks ago. I wasn't planning on doing it so soon, but people kept asking us where we were registered, so we just did it.
Actually, someone already bought our entire set of dinnerware, so thats pretty cool!

We did just the first floor of Fortunoff-crystal, dinnerware, lenox, etc. We will do the rest in January 2006. I am glad we did b/c we got a lot of 'congrats' gifts off our registry!
