I am interested to hear who is hiring a wedding planner and why?
I know a lot of girls are doing the DIY thing, but wanted an idea of who was getting some extra help....
Has it made a difference in negotiations with vendors such as florists, etc.?
And if you are, who are you using and is it expensive???

I hired a planner, she is based in Maryland and is planning my LI wedding.. I wanted someone who was close to me but had connects with NY vendors. She is AWESOME and has been such a help in every aspect of the planning, from vendor selection to choosing the dress. She speaks to all the vendors for me, gets all my questions answered, right now she is addressing my STDs for me and will be putting them in the mail next week. She is like a BFF and MOM!!
We hired her for full service planning so she is doing everything for us.. ANd yes when you have a planner you still plan your wedding, we have just hired someone to coordinate all of our logistics and help with the event design. Its money well spent, and it was not that expensive. Especially since we hired her right after we got engaged, which will mean we would have had her planning for us for 2 years. We are all done paying her now which is awesome!! Its the best wedding decision I have made!

I am searching. So far I am being priced low to high. All i need is someone to set up and thats it. No all day coodinator...i can handle those things myself... just put the centerpieces on the table and thats about it...
Some of the DOC dont want to hear me though. They just say 'Well for 12 hours we can give you...' and I go 'I only need you for three'

they are all too worried about getting their hair ready and not having enough time between the rehearsal... yup... nice... I really dont want my mom to do everything...shes amazing but I WANT HER TO ENJOY the day you know?
there really isn't anyone reliable on my side...not sure about fh but I dont think they would be interested!

See - A Day of Coordinator could be really nice.. I am planning the whole thing myself but down the line..when all the little details are set, I might want one!

i may end up hiring a DOC still not sure on that though
I am THE PLANNER for my friend in CA lol after she saw my ideas she asked me if I would do her wedding Of coarse I said YES
Only thing with that is knowing vendors in CA is not so easy but things need to happen quickly it's going to be a last min wedding as soon as her FH gets home from Iraq it's a go

I hired Exquisite Affairs Productions as my planner and DOC.
I wanted to ensure that I left 'no stone unturned' and that I was getting the best deals for what I wanted.
You truly don't realize how much you need a planner until you have them!
Christine from EAP has already helped me plan my entire engagement party - - everything from matching placecards, menus, and table numbers to getting me a better price for my flowers and DJ - she has been amazing!
Although we've just started with the wedding planning stuff, she's already negotiated a better price on my limos because of her connections in the industry.

I can honestly say that I feel comfortable that I will not be missing out on any hot trend or overlook any aspect of planning because I have a planner.

I think anywhere between $500-1000 is average for a DOC.

if i do hire anyone, itll be a DOC...but it will take a lot of convincing FH into why the hell i need one i might not though, if i see $$$ is getting tight towards the end, then it is something i can do without....if problems do arise the day of i will make my mother to go to person and tell her take care of it she wont like that one!
