How many of us hiring a Wedding Planner?

Original post by Jess and Jon

Hi girls,

I am interested to hear who is hiring a wedding planner and why?

I know a lot of girls are doing the DIY thing, but wanted an idea of who was getting some extra help....

Has it made a difference in negotiations with vendors such as florists, etc.?

And if you are, who are you using and is it expensive???

I'm hiring me because I'm awesome and cheap for all the planning!

BUT I am going to hire a DOC because its my day and I DO NOT want to work at all!

I contemplated hiring a DOC and even contacted a few people, but then I decided not to. Even if I hired someone I feel like I would wind up doing everything anyway, since that is just the way I am. Plus, given our lower-budget wedding, spending about $750 for a DOC seemed silly... we have better places to put the money. I have a very DIY family and I think it will be fine.

Anyone interested in a DOC should check out Ryan from ABOVE AND BEYOND. She was my sisters DOC and she ROCKED!!! We honestly don't know what we would've done without her!! As a past bride, I kept telling my sister that we wouldn't need one....blah blah blah! Well she wanted one and went with Ryan and I can't believe how she was right and EVERY bride should have one- I can't believe I missed out! She made shitt happen that woud've never happened if it wasn't for her- perfect example: The florist had set up everything for the ceremony to be outside and last minute it started to rain. The staff and the Watermill said it wasn't possible for her flowers to be moved inside, which was so upsetting being she spent so much money on the ceremony flowers!! Well Ryan went out there in the rain herself and cut them down off the headboard (Yes-she had all the tools in her handy dandy tool box) and then moved them ALL into the inside ceremony location!! Thats just one example of her AMAZING abilities!!!!! She sewed me a bustle, had body tape so my newly engorged pregnant boobies would stay in the dress, she secretly swapped out the champagne from my toasting flute and filled it with gingerale so I could drink after I gave my MOH taoast without being suspected of being pg- no one knew at the time!!! SHES THE BEST!!!!

DEF consider Ryan

DOesnt make a difference..unless you are way too busy to do things on your own and need someone to do it for you.

It takes the fun out of your wedding planning.

I hired a DOC for the day. The best decision I have made. I already feel a sense of relief.

me too....I just don't want mom or the other important woman in my life stressing out more than they will be already! I want to be confident that things will run smoothly...and if they don't...I want to trust that I have someone helping to make sure the kinks are fixed..so I can enjoy every second of it...

I have some anxiety issues LOL... so I know that if anything goes wrong (as it will) I don't want to have to be the one to hear about it... so that's why we are going with one - absolutely!

I am searching. So far I am being priced low to high. All i need is someone to set up and thats it. No all day coodinator...i can handle those things myself... just put the centerpieces on the table and thats about it...

Some of the DOC dont want to hear me though. They just say 'Well for 12 hours we can give you...' and I go 'I only need you for three'

I am in the same boat ... I have all this DIY stuff that I want to make sure it all gets set up the right way ... Im type A about these things!! so anyway, I dont need them for the full day ... so I am still looking ... after they set up and guests are eating .. I dont think i will need them anymore

Is that a vendor on here?

No planner or DOC for us... as it turns out, the head of the events at the Jewish Center is going to 'take charge' of running the ceremony and making sure we all know what to do (pretty much my big fear). He is also bringing his assistant to help deal with the reception, instructing vendors, etc. because after the ceremony he will have to disappear to the kitchen to make sure that behind the scenes stuff is working. I think it is just a perk for us because FH's parents have belonged to this Jewish Center for about 25 years!

We are not hiring a Wedding Planner. My mom is a former events planner and I'm a crazy person haha. Our RH is small and the BM and Maitre'D are able to handle all the Day-Of stuff. For us it wasn't worth the money.

I plan on using ***as well as my DOC with some extra stuff. So far she seems to have calmed my stress level!

Also, my particular venue does not have a full-time events coordinator, so I do think I need the help.

Re: How many of us hiring a Wedding Planner?

Since this is what I do I dont really feel that I need one...but I do want a DOC...not a family member or friend. My Family thinks I'm crazy but I am sooo OCD when it comes to events and I really just want to relax and enjoy my day I know that if I dont have one I'll make sure to get my a$$ to the church and RH early to make sure everything is in place. I really want a DOC my family is just going to have to deal with it.

Thats what i need exactly! Im using Ryan above and beyond. My fh is in law enforcement so shes giving us a discount. In my opinion you may not need a wedding planner but you should atleast have a DOC to handle the days stress.
