And if you did what did you do about it? Should I just throw the check out or should I call the person?? Not to mention my bank charged me $20 because of this…ugh!

Actually, this just happened to us! I didn't know that you could redeposit the check, though. Is there any way to ask the bank if the check is good before you do this? Is it rude to try to redeposit this without contacting the person? I just feel so funny calling DH's friend out over this. What a very weird situation!
Banks can't give out someone elses balance but there are a few things you can do. 1 - go to the same back the check is drawn on... they MIGHT cash it for you (some banks do and some dont). And when they try to cash it, if the money is unavailable or not in the account they will say something like 'not good at present'. OR 2 - take it to your bank and have the customer service desk person call the maker's bank to verify the funds. The maker's bank will be able to say whether or not 'it's good at present' or if they have enough funds to cover the check... but again they can't give a balance. It's not rude to redeposit the ck w/o letting them know... people do that ALL THE TIME.. especially businesses... but you are taking a risk that it could bounce again and then you will have another fee! SO you really want to be certain it's good before you redeposit it. Also, there may be a limit on the number of times you can redeposit a bounced check... the bank may not want to take if after it happens 2 or 3 times.. some banks might not care though bc they are getting fees... so what's it to them?

thankfully none! but there were a few VERY close friends who didn't give any gift i don't know what's worse ...
Same here
Technically they have 1-year to give a gift...maybe the gift is still on its way?
Yes I know about the one year rule.... I will keep my fingers crossed because if they never give us anything, even a card, it will be hard to not resent that a litttle bit.... and it's not something you can really bring up.

I wonder if the BM in question didn't give a gift because she assumed that between the money they spent on their dress, If they paid for the shower, etc...was their gift?
Dunno. I find it odd, but maybe thats why?
That coulb be it. I remember that I was in wedding and ended up spending almost $800 on just the items that were required to be in the wedding party.....I still gave a gift but I almost didnt because I was low on funds.

We only had one. Most people say you shouldnt do this but I did. I called the person and said Im sorry but I just wanted to let you know that your check was not processed.
They said they would send me another, needless to say - they didnt

Re: How many of you had wedding checks bounce?
I got a bounced check at my engagement party, it ****** but it wasn't for that much so whatever and it only cost FH $10 so we just forgot it and he is def not invited to the wedding. (he was a friend of the best man not really ours so its not a big deal)

I did not have any bounce, but I did have a couple of non gifters, but hey, I was actually just happy to see them there sharing our day, but in your case I would wait and see if they contact you, if not I would call so you do not keep paying fees.

that's what I don't get - my BMs didn't have to spend anything for my shower - my sisters and family threw it for me and they just had to show up - I gave them their BM dresses (from BCBG! which cost me almost $300 each) and gifts on top of that! yeah - will someone shoot me please!
Ok THAT is out of control. I would never.
Call that betch up! (jk)
As far as the bounced check goes, I went to a wedding on Sunday and someone was saying 'i hope my check doesn't bounce when they go to cash it...' and I was thinking...if you KNOW that its gonna bounce, why not post date it...or write in the card, short on funds, will send you a gift when I get some money but congrats and love ya? lol
I'd be most pissed about the fee!

Re: How many of you had wedding checks bounce?
I didn't have any bounced checks but I did have a close friend who was a no-gifter She wants us to visit her in Virginia (no way after this will I go out of my way for her!!!! ). What hurts is that she kept saying she would send one...it's hard to let it go (or at least it was for me) but you have no choice. I don't see her too often anyway and now I will probably see her even less...I went to her wedding a few years ago and of course I gave her a gift As far as the bounced check, that really s*cks...I would first redeposit the check, then go to the bank the check is drawn on, then think about calling. Not sure if I would call them right away because they will know it bounced within a few days and it would be a really awkward call for you to make.... GL and i hope you are able to cash your check!!!

Re: How many of you had wedding checks bounce?
I don't like that whole 'one year rule'. I think it's ridiculous. If somebody does not give you a gift at the wedding, basically they are just not going to be giving you one at all. It just seems useless afterwards, and most people conveniently forget about it. I just don't get where that rule even came from anyway. I feel weird if somebody gives me a birthday gift even just 2 weeks late. It's kinda like 'why bother NOW?' So it would be equally (or even more) weird to receive a late Wedding Gift. Especially if it's a few months to a year late.
I had a couple people come to my shower without a gift and they promised to send one. I am sooo not holding my breath on that deal!! Which s*cks big time, cause we still need sooooo much for our new house!!

Re: How many of you had wedding checks bounce?
I actually usually mail my gift ($$$) after the wedding, but its mainly b/c i've heard too many stories about cards being stolen at the reception. I just feel like its less likly to get lost in the commotion if I mail it later. I don't wait months though and i'd NEVER let myself forget about it!!! Usually goes out within a month...

Re: How many of you had wedding checks bounce?
We heard thru the grapevine that a guest's check will probably bounce, and they gave us a generous gift. We deposited it on Monday, so we'll wait and see.
