within 1 week before the wedding we have 'lost' 9 guests who decide they cant come anymore. ***!!!! i am debating whether or not i will ever talk to some of these people again, i do not believe that their reasons are legit from 'oh i forgot to tell u i wont be bringing a guest' to 'i forgot i had to work'........i have never been fukced by so many people in my life. how many people did this to you, new brides? Vent Over.

Re: how many people screwed u over? VENT
I expect a couple of those since my wedding is inbetween Christmas and new Year's.
Just celebrate with those who come to your wedding..they're the ones that want to be a part of your special day.

it will be wonderful dont worry the people that matter most will be there the only person that didnt come was a guy my DH worked with and he literally spoke to him 2 days before the wedding, the guys said yeah ill be there bla bla - NO SHOW - sooo rude - then my DH saw him last week and he's like oh giving him some BS excuse screw those ppl!

after all is said and done it really is about you and who is there. Please don't be so offended bypeople who make excuses. It is just money after all.
Maybe you could send him a bill for his unused place setting!
Wouldn't that be funny?

Re: how many people screwed u over? VENT
I had a couple of 'friends' do this with my shower. My mother was so stressed about everything as it was because there were quite a few people who couldn't attend (for valid reasons), and a few of my friends just didn't even respond. What burns me up was I made personal phone calls to let them know I was having my mother send them an invitation, and if they couldn't make it that was fine, but to 'please just respond'. Well, guess what, I don't care about proper etiquette....they're not going to get the opportunity to do it to me with the wedding too. Why should I bother sending an invitation for the wedding when you couldn't give a second thought to my shower and have the courtesy to at least respond?
Please don't quote this, I'm going to delete this just in case of any lurkers (outside of the family).

It stinks. I only had a few people do this but my RH gave me up to 72 hours before the wedding to edit my list so I was able to get the money back for their plates.

i had a total of 8 people, 2 people called two days after i put in my final count and they had a legit excuse the rest just didn't show and/or explain so in the end I don't bother with them anymore. Still haven't said anything to me or dh. You will not even notice that they are not there on your day but in the end it's money wasted and that hurts.

Re: how many people screwed u over? VENT
it is such a pain!!! but i've been on the other side of it too. FH's job requires him to be on call. So we've RSVPd to 2 weddings where at last minute he had to work. So I know what it feels like to show up without the guest you RSVPd with--feeling embarrassed and terrible about wasting the couples money.

we had 6 people do this the day before (dh didnt tell me) i would have been so pissed the 4 people happend to be sitting at a table of 7 which would have made the table 3 dh handled it with the banquet manager - we had to get rid of that table all together and move the 3 guests problem was the table cards had a different number the banquet manager politely escorted them to the other table without giving details- i found out a few minutes before the reception started at that point i didnt care (very glad dh didnt tell me the day before i would have been a wreck for no apparent reason) sadly i didnt even realize the other 2 people didnt show until the end of the wedding i guess those who truly want to be there will be and those who dont care as much dont show- i could say out of the 6 people 2 couples sent a very generous gifts ( i know its not about the gifts more of the inconvenience)

That was nice of those who sent you generous gifts. You know, it's not just about the money, it's just rude and inconsiderate. Sometimes, yes, there are legitimate reasons, and that you can understand. And, like in Kathryn's case, that can't be helped. I just can't understand how people don't think anything of doing that.

exactly agreed things do happen last minute believe me and it isn't about the money certain excuses they use didnt seem to match up its kind of insulting for the split second

At my brother's wedding we had two couples bring their elderly parents! That's an extra four people that didn't have a place to sit! I don't get it at all. And these are people who have thrown weddings for their kids so KNOW about seating arrangements. We had to shift family members around at the last minute and it was very annoying.
We also had 5 people not show up. I think 2 called the next day but the other 3 never did.
There will always be selfish people out there. It's important to remember the ones that DID come and celebrate with you and forget about the ones who didn't.

Some people just don't think or don't care!
Hopefully, you can find last minute replacements. I had a friend call me 3 days before her wedding that I wasn't initially invited to. I went and had fun even though I wasn't on an A or B list!
Maybe they'll be thoughtful enough to send a monetary gift anyway so that you don't lose out on the money spent.

Re: how many people screwed u over? VENT
I had one friend tell me the week of my wedding by text message her FH had knee surgery and couldn't come! Meanwhile, everyone knew from my shower he was having surgery, so why did you RSVP for 2??? Also two of DHs co-workers didn't show-they had a valid reason and still have a gift. The best is that I had a couple show up-my dads co-workers who never sent back the RSVP!! My parents didn't tell me until they found them seats! I had one co-worker not show up as well-again valid reason and she still gave a gift. It actually turned out ok because we only paid for the minimum and and I think including vendors we didn't feel we wasted the money.

There are some people you can almost predict will do something like that, but then there are those who kind of blind-side you...those are the ones you're more hurt by. But, I agree, on the day you're not really going think about it...too much is going on. Even at the shower, everything went soo fast, at first it didn't sink in who some of the missing people were. What are you gonna do?

My cousin who I've been having problems with, calls my MOTHER to tell her that she got the invite but she has another wedding that day... her friends wedding that 'shes known for 20 years' and she could only come to either my church or the reception and she told my mom that she will do whatever my mother chooses.... HELLO I THOUGHT I WAS THE BRIDE?!?!
Whatever... I dont care either way, I doubt I will even make eye contact with her at my wedding.

Re: how many people screwed u over? VENT
My cousin rsvp'd for 2 then wrote me a letter last week saying that she couldn't make for a valid reason. She did send a gift and apologized but thats ok at least it is befroe my final count.
We had to track down like 20 people to see if they were coming b/c they never sent back rsvp's. We will see come next week how many do not show up.
I have a few friends I worry about. One didn't show up to my shower after rsvping and the same girl didn't show up to my Bach. Party. I hope she does come but very unreliable
