Re: how many photos?

I am guaranteed a minimum of 250 but will probably get more. It depends on the style.

Re: how many photos?

I had 500 on my contract...and I called him up one month before frantic that that wouldn't be enough...He told me not to worry, b/c he usually takes more...I ended up with 1000!!

Re: how many photos?

You will get varying responses on this topic. You should ask your photographer what is typical of the weddings they have already completed, not what they are promising you. Then decide what you want on your contract. As Yabbo said, her contract indicated at least 500 proofs, but she has 1000.

Also, the brides that are using two photographers instead of one will average more proofs as well, but I am sure there are many duplicate shots, just taken from different perspectives.

I had one photographer and ended up with 500 proofs. Some who is using a candid photographer in addition to a tradional photograper will probably average double that number or more. For instance, Sonicstef said she received nearly 1300 proofs from her wedding, and she used Mark Kauffman studios.

This being said, I also think that you need to pay closer attention to style and finished product. In my opinion, when it comes to choosing a photographer, you want quality first. Quantity is a secondary consideration.

Re: how many photos?

I'm guaranteed 250, but will probably see 300.

You have to also remember, that when a photographer guarantees a really large number of proofs, this means he/she will be taking pictures of everything under the sun, and you may wind up with a lot of empty shots, like pictures of tables and half eaten food. This happened to one of my friends...

Honestly, you don't realize how many pictures 250 really is until you see it...it's quite a bit!

Re: how many photos?

Claud is right...it all depends on the photographer.

However, as a general rule - the more spontaneous or 'photojournalistic' a photographers style is, the higher the proof count. Its just not possible to take perfect action shots in one try so you need several.

A more traditional style (where most shots are posed and everyone is smiling into the camera) doesnt require as many shots to get just right so the proof count will be lower.

Some other things to consider are:

a) How much B&W/Color do you want? Assuming all the important stuff is captured in both b&w and color - that will double your proof count.

b)How many hours will your photogrpaher be with you? If you want him there for 10 hours and he promises 200 proofs - that means he will only be taking an average of 20 shots (less than one roll) per hour!

I have a lot of proofs! I am a very critical person and I knew that I would only like 10% of my shots so having a lot to choose from was one of the top reasons I choose my photographers (aside from loving the style).

PS: I have about 1500 proofs and I dont have any 'empty' shots. Some are no good because we are blinking or someone stepped in front of something or a variety of other reasons out of the photographers control but good photographers will not just burn film for the heck of it.
