How many places did you look before choosing dress?

I am returning to the bridal shop tomorrow to try on the dress that I thought was my final choice, but now I'm not so sure. I saw some dresses i loved online that were satiny. the one i'm trying tomorrow is more kind of lacey but not...it's got some sort of embroidered type design with pearl and crystal beads, kinda like a Monique Lilliheur (sp?) but it was a pronovias. I 'really liked' the one i tried on, and frankly, just don't want to go all around looking for a dress. However, I don't want to regret it if I find other dresses i might like better after I purchase it.

I guess it's safer not to buy it tomorrow, but I am getting nervous that I'm running out of time. My wedding's in August

How many places/dresses did you ladies go to before finding THE DRESS?

ETA: I got my dress! I posted a separate note about it. Thank you all so much for your answers. It really made me feel so much better going in knowing that it kind of ran the gamut in terms of how much time and how many dresses were tried on...Yippee!

I spent about two weeks straight online searching all the designers and lurking around wedding photo albums on all the popular websites. My dress ended up being the first dress I tried on in the first store I went to. I lucked out with a fabulous gown designer/consultant. She was awesome and knew just what type of gown I would look best in!

Me too and I could have also picked the first but it was sooooooooooo heavy that my shoulders were hurting hence why I tried on dress #2 which was THE ONE!!

I tried on so many dresses from David's Bridal to Vera Wang to Carolina Herrera...it was fun!!

I went to 5 different places but I ended up ordering the first dress I tried on, at the first store.

I went to about 5 different places (more so b/c we were looking for a sample of my dress and no one had it) but once I put it on I knew I was done. I didnt get that 'feeling' I just loved the one I was in and that was that. If you are worried you may love other ones, find out where you can try on dresses by that designer, or even dresses that are the same type of dress and cut just to be sure. That is what I did.

Good Luck, and dont worry about time, you are exactly where I was when I ordered my dress, no matter what it will come in in time for fittings

I went absolutely everywhere. So def over 20 places...a few times.

I almost ordered a dress...it was beautiful and not esxpensive, but then went to one more place and found THE dress. It had been in other stores...I just never thought I'd like it (thought it was way too much) until I saw it in an advertisement.

I loved my dress. Loved it to death. No maybes about that. It was me.

i had a weird experience with my dress. before we got engaged i had seen a dress online and fell in love with it.

when we get engaged and i finally started to shop for dresses i wanted to find it. so i went to 5 different places and tried on at least 20 dresses. i found 2 that i really liked but still wanted that dress i found online. finally i tracked it down in the boondocks of bklyn. i went tried it on and fell in love all over again. i actually had that 'this is the one' moment.

so technically the first dress i liked was the dress i ended up with.

I hear you about heavy dresses! I nixed the whole heavy dress category because they are so hot also and i'm getting married in august! it felt funny saying 'no...that dress is too heavy' ;)

That is soooo great! I can't believe you went to 20 places (a few times)!!! OMG - you have so much patience. I am so happy to hear you got your dress though. you must have been so thrilled!

i went to 3 the first one was the bridal salon in manhasset and i tried everything lol there then i went to the seocnd one and narrowed my choices and then i decided on my private label dress
