Right now I registered for 12, 5 piece settings. Is this too many?

I agree, 12 is pretty standard. When I register I'll be registering for that much as well

We're only doing 8, 4 piece sets(we both have small families).....it's not 'fine' china - more everyday...

I think 12 is the usual #.
We did nicer casual dinnerware, but no fine china so we registered for 16 (we have a big family and since its everyday use also- some may break-eeekk)

we didnt register for formal china but i think that 12 is the norm.
We did buy everyday china. We cought 24 sets but we found ours at bloomindales for $100 for 12 place settings so my parents bought us 2 and we love it!!!
