How much?

How much?

Would you give as a cash wedding gift for a wedding you're traveling far away to? Its in Chicago and its costing us approx a grand to go for the weekend?

Note: I'm super close with her, shes one of my closest girlfriends...

Thoughts? I was thinking 300 but everyone keeps telling me its too much?

$300 sounds good to me.

You have to do what you're comfortable with.

If I were already spending $1000 and going to the wedding alone, I think I'd probably give $200 (or registry item(s) that equal about that). If I were going with FH, I'd probably do $250. $300 seems like a lot, but I know my dad gives that at weddings. He can afford it more than I can.

Someone whom you're that close with is not going to judge you on your gift, but I can understand your wanting to do more for her! Just be reasonable with your budget about it.

Do whats right for you. Its a close friend. If you can afford the $300 go with that if YOU feel thats what you want to do.

FH and I spent a lot of money on his BF's wedding, and we gave her $500.

Do whats right for you.

300 is perfect, esp if ur close. im sure u just ebing there is appreciated and the couple knows ur traveling JUST for them. youre safe with 300.

Id give a registry item, spending a grand to go alone is alot of $$$.

$300 sounds perfect to me, especially since your spending so much to get there. But like everyone else said you have to do what you feel comfortable with.

I kinda hope you girls show up to my wedding... lol

I wonder if I'd feel bad if a single friend of mine gave me $300 when I didn't think she could really afford it. I think I would really hope that no one over-extends themself on my behalf. Just being there is gift enough for me.

I actually invited my trainer (who has been my friend for 3 years) to my wedding last week and included a hand-written note in the invitation that said 'please do not feel obligated to bring a gift -- your presence would be gift enough for us!' because I know she's going through some really hard times right now.

$300 is very generous IMO.

personally I am not expecting too much from anyone but especially my OOT guests. In these tough times most people just dont have the extra to spare. if you can afford it and feel comfortable go for it.......... at minimum it will be good karma for your day

Side bar: isn't the rule for $ gifts = cover your plate? ( of course you can give extra but just saying)
