Do you send as a gift to a wedding that you're not able to attend?

Typically... I automatically start with a base of $200 (if I am bringing a guest...I figure 100 a person). Then I sort of factor in who they are (how close are we), what I gave as a shower gift (for instance for a friend who got married in September I bought them their cake topper... $150 handblown glass and I made them a towel cake... I gave them $300 for their wedding. I would also factor in traveling. If you aren't going and would've have to travel a bit (bridges, airfare, tolls.. etc) I'd give a little more since you're saving on that end.So after all that rambling... I'd start at $200 and factor in certain things :)

I think it depends on who it is that's getting married. Since you aren't attending they aren't 'paying for your plate' so I don't think you should feel you have to compensate for that. If they're close to you, I'd say 200 (100 per person). If they aren't too close, maybe a little less? I don't know, haven't been in this situation before..but that's probably how I'd judge it.

I thought I heard somewhere that you can buy them something that is left on their registry?

I typically give what I would if I was there. The wedding I didn't go to in September I sent $200 because I didn't travel to it. My cousins wedding in October was in Virginia and we only gifted them $150 since we traveled and spent a lot of money to get there.I also think it depends how close you are, if it was someone I knew well I would give a bit more.

You could definitely do this too, quick and easy.

This to me sounds right.

depends on who it is!!! again, a base of $200. typically you cover at least your plate. However, I did give my brother in law 1K with my fiance however we were in the bridal party, and its his brother! but again we spent a ton of money being in the bridal party and such but their our closest family so it really depends!

If was not attending the wedding, I would probably send $200. (this is if it isnt family or a close friend of course) If I am attending a wedding my base starts $300 (though I almost always go over that)

If I wasnt attending, it would really depend how close I was with the person and what they gave me. It would probably range from a registry gift to $400.If I am attending I never give less than $300 and now a days it's probably closer to $350. I feel like most venues on LI charge over $100 a plate when all is said and done. Weddings are sooooooooo expensive!!!!

I would say $150-200 at a minimum and that is pending your relationship to the person. This may help:
