How much are you tipping

Original post by JamieAnt06202009

your Maitrd D? Our RH suggested that we tip $5 per person and tip the bridal attendant $50. We thought that was a bit steep. I want to hear what you girls are tipping so we can give the average amount.

Honestly, I think all this tipping stuff i BS....we are all paying through the nose for everything, how can they possibly expect tips as well. Ugh, I wish they would just factor it into the price off the get-go and just take the extra stress out of it.

When not to tip:

Officiant or clergy: Civil servants (judges, justices of the peace, etc.) are not permitted to accept tips. Clergy are generally paid a flat fee for their services, or they may ask that a donation be made to their house of worship instead.

I found this in an article Tips for Wedding Tips

And for hair and makeup they suggested 15-20%

I think they only applies to priests in a church.. I remember this was true when my sis was getting married at a church, they take donations but no tips.. but officiants outside of church you tip

Really? I thought you only give them the donation. Im not sure about this.....I think it's weird to tip any sort of priest, officiant, ect....

I totally agree. I'm leaving someone else in charge of giving our tips out and I'm having a feeling that he may return lots of envelopes to us He thinks it's ridiculous

I agree too!! I am going to look at it this way...my photographer is not a business but a person I know so the money is going to her and I will most likely not tip her. The DJ and Officiant...same situation. As for my Limos...the tip is included in the price and I highly doubt I will give them any more, especially since they are only picking up at my house and dropping off at RH. All this tipping gets way outta hand. We are paying soo much money to have this wedding and now we have to tip everyone for the job that they were hired to do.

BTW...my Matre'd is suggested $3 per person.

my RH wants $5 per person and they havent mentioned anything about the bridal attendant so I guess whatever we want to give.

The tipping is so STRESSFUL! lol
I completely forgot to factor in TIPS into our wedding budget and my DH almost had a heart attack when I presented him with the 'tipping list'

I say just do what you feel is right. I tipped everyone I felt deserved it. Some vendors even got a little extra in their envelope at the end of the night because I felt they worked extra hard.

P.S. another thing I didnt realize was that a lot of these vendors (photographers, videographers, etc) come with ASSISTANTS! So just keep that in mind to ask your vendors how many people they will be bringing with them

All this tip talk got me thinking .....

Do you think my bosses would get mad if I hang a tip jar outside my office door with a list of suggested tips for services?

I would make it fair and reasonable:

Return phone call to cilent - $25
Send email to client - $40
Follow up phone call/email to client with actual hard copy of letter or other documents - $100

Sometimes this tipping business just gets me so ! And I waitressed all through college!

I would LOVE to do that

I used to waitress to, so I feel guilt, but it's really hard when you're on the other end of the coin!

UGhhhh are we on this again, lol. All this tipping stuff is total BS. Seriously, I don't understand how people tip this much, these people are getting paid to do their job! Why must I give them more of MY money?

I tip very well when I eat out, but tipping on top of the inflated prices relating to 'Wedding Services', I will never understand it.

There is no way I am tipping 3-5 dollars per person.

Re: How much are you tipping

Everyone but the Maitre D is included in our RH gratuity - Bridal Attendant too. They didn't give us a suggestion for the MD tip though. I am getting mixed signals... $1 - $5 pp. That's some serious cash with a large party. I think the lower dollar pp is acceptable with larger parties though since its a pretty nice amount. While a smaller party wouldn't generate as much income at the same low amount pp. I think $300 is what we may tip. We'll see how smooth service runs that night!

this is what my DOC suggested...

Hair - $50 to $75
Makeup - $50 to $75
DJ - $100 - $150
DJ asst - $50 to $75
Band ? 10% of total bill
Photographer - $100 to $150
Photographer asst - $50 to $75
Videographer - $100 to $125
Video asst - $50 to $75
Limos - $25 to $50 each
Floral delivery - $25 to $50 each
Maitre-d? - $3 to $5 per person (or what is suggested by your venue)
Bridal attendant - $75 to $100
Officiant - $25 to $50
Altar people - $20 each
Ceremony music - $25 to $50

Isnt the Ceremony music doen by your DJ/Band? Oh wait, you can also get like a pienist or instrumental people.....nevermind. This list is good! Thank you!!

I guess the maitre D is the one who I have been working with at the RH since I booked, correct?

Any Lessings Brides have a bridal assistant?? Do they provide that?

no its not the same person, the person you booked with and work with during planning is your banquet manager. I had a different person for Maitre'd and most ppl do. Sometimes can be the same though just depends.

they dont get any of the 20% gratuity, that is for servers, and other staff. So money they make is from the tips.

To answer the OP, typically it is $2-5pp, i think we did about $5 pp but i think in the end dh gave more than we had planned which was $5pp more like $6 i think BUT at most RH's the maitre'd splits the tip with the banquet manager too.

as far as what they do, its basically everything to do with your wedding. They coordinate with the chefs, i know he had some ideas for different options and asked the chef to do that instead. He set up everything, made sure the staff was on top of everything. Honestly my maitre'd ran around all night and really busted his A**. He also went out of his way to do a bunch of things for us, whether we asked for it or not. He even surprised us with a bunch of things.

Bridal attendants-we had 2 of them. I have to say the main bridal attendant was AMAZING!!!! from the moment i stepped off the bus he was there waiting for me. HE didnt leave my side and wouldnt even let me hold my own dress whenever i walked up and down the stairs or went to the bridal suite or did anything. They ran around alot bc it wasnt just us but our bp and family they took care of. When we first got there, it was 30-45 mins before CH started but there was food and a bunch fo stuff in the suite, let me say my bp i think had the other bridal attendant run back and forth so much for so many things lol. I told dh $100 each but again for some reason i put dh in charge of tips that night and i think he did $200 each. I didnt care to deal with any of that so i told him to do it.

But i would wait to see how they perform that night.

Re: How much are you tipping

I am taking into consideration what people recommend to me but I will base my final tip on what I feel they deserve and what I feel comfortable giving. What I find in my reserach and stuff I feel is an average. Tips are a gift and should be given but if its a ridiculous amount and I feel they dont deserve it then I will either take a few bucks off or add on according to their performance.

My FH's opinion is we'll never see this wedding vendors again so who cares .. but honestly we will plan to do right by everyone but will def take into account the job they do throughout the night and then adjust accordingly
