How much did it cost to appraise your ring?

How much did it cost to appraise your ring?

I hear all different prices...please help me out and let me know where you went and how much they charged. TIA.

FH paid $100, but that was to set and apprise.

I got mine done at Macy's in Herald Square.

It was a % of the appraised value - I think around 1%...it was about $90

Worth it to know that I got what I paid for!!!

Thanks ladies. I just got off the phone with the infamous Jewelry Judge in Garden City....they said it starts at $90.00 and goes up $50.00 per each additional 1/2 of carat. After 3 carats, there is an additional fee as well.

Any other prices?

i got mine insured through the Chubb Group..they cover everything..make sure you know what they cover..i think i paid $129??

The only thing I was ever told about apraisals is NOT to have it done at the place of purchase. And if you do have it done there, to have a second one done as well.

The location you bought it at, wouldnt tell you if it appraised for less than what you paid.

We got it appraised at Good Old Gold in Massapequa - it was $75.

I don't know where you live near, but try the linda shop in massapequa. (jewelry store)

Well, I know how much our homeowner's charges and what they cover, it's the appraisal fees I'm concerned with. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info ladies..I know NOT to get it appraised by the jeweler we bought from....the best to go to is a certified gemologist...

free the jeweler we got it from did it and then its not bad for the insurance per year. Where did he get it?

we did get it appraised from the person we bought the ring from, only b/c it was a friend, and he would not mess with things. He didn't charge us a penny

FH bought my ring from a very reputable person so he appraised it for us and I have no doubt it was accurate.
But I guess the general rule is to bring it somewhere else, the diamond should come with papers...so you can get an idea of its range if you look online.

ETA - appraisals most often cost between $50-$75. Shouldn't be more than that.

was free. But then again our neighbor designed and made my ring so she took it to her friend to do it....I wanna say he charges 25 bucks tho
