Just wondering what the average is these days.

My gown cost between 500 and 1000...but...
don't forget you have to add in bustle, alterations, shoes, veil, pantyhose, etc...it adds up. and it adds up quick!

Then I remembered Im in NYC and it's been awhile since I was 15. So hopefully went for a budget of $1,500

My dress with alterations and tax came to $1,524, which in my book is pretty damn good seeing as it started at a little over $1,900 before tax and I knocked it down to $1,250.

Still that's an awful lot of money for a dress worn for only one day.

I tried to keep it uner 1,000, but it wound up being 1500....

Thanks for the replies! Looks like i will have to increase my dress budget a little- didnt even think about alterations and extras.

I spent a lot more than I thought I would - but I love it so much! It was over $2000......

Mine came to a little over $1000 and that included a free headpiece, free veil and free alternations. I do not need a bustle because my train is a royal cathedral detachable train.

With tax and alterations and the slip underneath the dress (to make it full) it came out to about $1050. I thought it was a great deal!

I made the big mistake of under budgeting for my gown.... don't make this mistake because it's only asking for heart break if you fall in love with a gown that's way out of your budget. My gown is over $3000 with out alterations and bustle

Bridesave.com seems to have really good deals...But I am hestitant to order a dress i can't try on. I also heard that many tailors will not alter gowns that were not purchased at their stores. Where would you go for alterations?

I had budgeted a little more for my dress, but I ended up getting one for $1000! And I don't need any alterations!

Then there were the extras

Shoes: $170
Heapiece: $250
Veil: $40
Gloves: ??? maybe $80 haven't gotten them yet, but I like a Carolina Amato pair I saw
