We were told that $750 is the 'donation' across the city and long island. It seems really steep to me. What are you ladies paying for RC church?

The church donation may seem high, but bear in mind that the church relies on donations to keep it up and running. RHs charge a ceremony fee and you would have to also hire an officiant. When you look at it from that point of view, the donation isn't really all that bad.
our 'donation' in 2007 was about 470 and another 150 or so for organist and singer. today's seem higher but they are hurting for funds so they maybe are boosting what they are asking for since it's probably easier to get this donation than asking for more in the collection with the economy as it is.

Wow it seems as if a RC church is cheaper than an episcopal church. My church is costing me 1950 is it too late to become Catholic?
HAHAHAHAHA....mine too. I'm Episcopalian but mine is way cheaper because I am a member.

Re: How much did your church cost?
ours is 700 with music but not including precana. I was tacky enough to ask about tips, and the lady in the rectory said the only ppl its customary to tip are the altar boys, so I don't think we'll be tipping the priest. I do think 700 dollars is a lot, but then again when spending thousands of dollars on flowers and other things, you kind of feel guilty complaining about donating 700 dollars to a church, which is really the most important part of the wedding day anyway...

Re: How much did your church cost?
Yes, my church is my home parish. I actually used to work in the rectory as a teenager, who used to give engaged couples all that info, so now its really exciting that its my turn
Bride2011, you took the words out of my mouth. People get so enraged about whatever donation the church asks for, meanwhile we drop $XX,XXX on a reception without complaint. Also, its not just the church pocketing cash. The organist and singer have to get paid, there is a sacristan or other staff that set up and clean up for your wedding, and I'd also bet that we'd all like lights/heat/air conditioning on our wedding day, too. Those are all bills the church needs to pay.
So yes, its another budget item, but in the end, the actual wedding ceremony is really the most important part of the day. Just my view on it, anyway! Cool thread though, its interesting to see the ranges in whats asked for in different places.
