I didn't even factor this in to our budget when we first got engaged! We are paying for EVERYTHING ourselves and I have no idea where we will get the money for this too!!! I am trying to find a reasonably priced place with good food and atmosphere. I am having the hardest time. Maybe I am being unrealistic so I just wanted to find out how much you, your parents or FH's parents spent on the RD. Thanks for your help girls!!

i wish i could help ya...but we decided not to have a traditional RD---we just had my OOT friends & family come to my parent's house (along with BP - which was small) and my mom kept it old school puerto rican with some arroz con gandules, pernil, and then spiced it up with shrimp scampi. we had a blast.
can you maybe do an RD at your or someone's home?
my shower was at mario's in E. Setauket--and they are very popular for RD's and it was very reasonable!

This was exactly what I wanted! We were going to originally have it at my parents house. I made up invites and everything. Then my mom calls to tell me that she doesn't want all those people in her house, she doesn't want to set up or clean up (even though I have 3 sisters so she wouldn't be doing much of anything) and she said she doesn't want the house messy so close to the wedding. I shoudl have seen it coming since she does this type of thing all the time! I only asked her because we don't really have another option. I am so bummed...ugh...

couple things you have to look at. depends on how many people are going to the dinner? is it just the bridal party? sometimes other family members or friends are invited as well. also, depends where do you want to have it? restaurant or would you like it catered.

FIL are supposed to be paying. Ours is kind of a lot but FH is really picky with his food so we had to find a place that in their 'package' offered something FH would eat and of course it was the most expensive place. After I put down the deposit FH says 'do you think this place is too expensive?' I wanted to hit him

Honestly, we had about 25 people and we found a place that cost us (fixed menu) $23 per person. We spenf just over $500.

Ours will be about $3000 - $3500 and that's for approx. 50-60 ppl. Buffet and a full open bar, top shelf.

We are very fortunate that FILs are paying for the RD. We are doing it at a pub/restaurant that is 3 blocks from the church. We get a private room, buffet [3 entrees], beer, wine and soda, coffee and tea and dessert for $29pp including tax! We will have about 50 people!

We are doing our wedding ourselves too, so cost is a factor - we just bought a house so we so savings are slim right now.
We aren't even 100% positive that we will have a RD, but if we do we are just taking everone out for pizza, we figure the people at the RD are our closest friends and family members, so casual and fun is best, we'll save the more formal atmosphere for the wedding
