If you're really close with them than I think 200 is perfect

Re: how much do i give as a gift.....
I always give kids $100 savings bonds & a gift bag. The gift bag includes some clothes & some toys. The bond cost me $50 & the gift bag stuff usually costs me another $50.
When I was younger my parents owned a hall for hire (just a hall & provided tables, chairs, decorations, & bar service) & they always would tell us how many times people would open up the kids envelopes to pay for the party. My parents still have mine & my sisters savings bonds. We will get them when its time to purchase a home.
Its the parents decision to make a party for their child so I think the child deserves the money in the future.
Any cash or checks we received as kids went into our own personal savings accounts & we where only allowed to use it if our parents approved. My sister & I both used that money towards college.

i'm ignorant maybe. but...
$200!?
and she isn't going?
*** does a kid need $200 for? the parents will pocket it.
I agree... I mean, they came to your wedding and it was a wedding.
You aren't going to this event (therefore they aren't paying for your food/alcohol) and it's a Christening.
I would give $100.
What she said!!! And that's plenty generous!

i say $100 is appropriate. A wedding is different then a christening. $100 for not attending is plenty

I think $200 is good. I wouldnt give the same thing that i would give for a wedding

If you give a bond you can give it for a higher value than you pay for. It's good on both fronts. I got half my bonds when I turned 18 and put a down payment on a car with it. I was waiting for the other half to fully mature - which they did recently and I plan to use them toward wedding billz! It's like found money!
