how much do we give

FH and i are going to a wedding in DC this weekend. We'll obviously be oot-ers, we're driving down but will need to stay the weekend at a hotel.

how much do we give??

This is the first wedding we've been to where we're not part of the bridal party, or where the bride/groom isn't immediate family.

What's expected from an oot guest?

Jeez. Having lived down here, I have a warped sense of what to give. Honestly, I think you could give $150 and be ok unless it is a super nice wedding. People give way less than NY donwn here, and I've been to about 7 down here. Sme we did registry because we knew they needed the stuff ( had just bought a place ), but with money, I think $150 is fine

we're staying at the Executive in and Suites in Lenordtown.

It's an afternoon wedding, so while I'm sure it will be lovely, I don't think it will be super duper fancy or anything like that.

If we purchase a registry item should we stay around $150 as well?

Oh - sorry!

I live in DC proper ( by the zoo ) and have for the past 6 years.

I think $150. If it is registry, I might even go a little lower

And I see it is really Eastern Shore....so I think you could maybe even give less. How close are these people?

fh and the groom went to hs together.

the families are still pretty close, but fh and the groom only hear from eachother once or twce a year (first because FH was in the marines, and now because the groom drives ships.)

Def 100-$150...NO MORE than $200..... we went to a wedding up in Syracuse, NY...again a very different area compared to LI, and we gave $200 and we got a phone call from the bride and groom asking if we had filled the check out for thw wrong amount because it was 'sooooooooo generous'....woops! Everyone else gave from $40-$75, or like a picture frame or something.

i am not sure as to what to give- but i would not give any less just bc i am an OOT guest and not local. i dont think that should make a difference in the gift--- just my opinion.
