How much do we give?

How much do we give?

Advice please!

We are going to a wedding - it's a 2nd wedding for both the bride and groom. At first they were going to have it at the groom's mother's house (backyard), but apparently the wedding has grown to 100+ people - so, it's at a Knights of Columbus on a Sat. afternoon. The couple does not have a lot of money - I think the groom's mother is throwing the wedding.

Anyway, what do we give? I really don't want to give a gift (yes - she had a shower and was registered). How much cash?

We are not close with them, but run into them often b/c they are super close with FH's cousins.

HELP!
Thanks

I would give cash...and I would give the same amount as I would to a first time marriage. That's just me.

not very close with them? and KOC couldnt be more than $100 a couple... i'd say $100-150....

i wouldnt give a different amount for how many times theyve been married, i look at how well i know the couple, and if not well then i look at the place there having it

I would give cash and would give the same as I would for a first marraige. I wouldn't penalize a couple for getting married twice and give them less of a gift IMO : ).

I agree - I don't want to necessarily give them less b/c it is a 2nd time marriage.

However, I know that K of C is not over $100 per couple, therefor I don't think we have to give what we would normally give...

Some of the newer KOC's are not that cheap.

I would look into that.

I don't think that you should be basing your gift amount on where they are getting married. It should be on how much you can afford and want to give.

Whether someone is getting married at Tavern on the Green or at a back yard BBQ I wouldn't change how much I was giving to that person.

We had one person ask us before our wedding how much a head we were paying so he can cover his plate. I kind of though that was rude so I told him $200 a person .

Just my opinions though : )

I totally agree with Karen!

I would base it on how well you know them and not on the plate.

So, if they had a backyard BBQ with hot dogs and hamburgers you would give less of a gift than if they had it at Oheka Castle? I don't understand that way of thinking. It is about the wedding celebration and the two people, not the wedding location!

Give what you can afford and feel is appropriate based on your relationship with the couple.

dunne... id have no problem givine $200-$300 to a close friend or family member having a backyard bbq, but when your talking about someone who your not really close to, and dont really talk to/see much(i start to wonder if they're inviting people just to have a big wedding, or get gifts), and i look at outside things like cost, thats just my opinion on things...

Re: How much do we give?

Thanks for all the advice - I think I will have to base our gift on the fact that we are not close with them - in fact, I was even surprised that we were invited to the wedding. They were not on our list originally.

It's interesting to see the different opinions.
