How much do you let dh contibute to decor? (in other words, do you let him display ugly things)

Dh and I just a had a HUGE blow out- becasue he had this ugly cartoon statue thing on our desk.
I put it away, and he says I don't let him have any of his stuff out.

Now, I really don't let him put his stuff out, but I do let him keep some things out, like his Gollum figure (that talks ) and his motorcycle model on our entertainment center.

So my point is, I do not want my apartment to look like a dorm room or bachelor pad. Am I wrong?

JT had strict guidelines for his things, as in they can't be visible No....seriously, he doesn't care. He didn't have anything before we moved in together, anyway. The only thing he owns is hundreds of DVDs and I don't like them to be visible because I think it looks messy, even on a rack, and he's fine with that. He leaves all the decorating to me. I did fear that whole dorm/bachelor look before we moved in together and we had a talk about it before we even got an apartment. He agreed he wanted a nice place to live and not some dungeon covered in posters and other mismatched, unorganized things. I guess I got lucky!

Sunny - I just yelled at DH last night about not wanting our place to look like a dorm room! DH is actually always bugging me about my stuff - but I've explained our space issues to you!!

I'm sorry you're going through this!!

We have comprimises.......most of the stuff is mine - since I have more stuff anyway, it just makes sense.....and most of his stuff is in the bedroom, away from the main area that people spend time in

Well I was really mean, and he got really mad, so he started throwing all his stuff in the trash.

So I said- 'good, I got my way again'.

Which made him REALLY mad, and then he left (he was on his way out anyway).

So now I feel guilty.

My DH LOVES nascar and sooo badly wants to display Nascar crap (as i kindly refer to it).
As well as his comic bbok stuff..

We are in a condo and there is just no room for 'his stuff'. So no i will not let him display it.
We compromised that when we buy a house..the basement is his to do and decorate as he pleases..the rest will be mine...
Works for us

dh is a sports fanatic and he always wants to have sports stuff around but he is not allowed!
HE has 5 of those ugly plastic basketball trophies that are his pride and joy and they are the only thing that is allowed to be out! They are in the spare room right now. Eventually the spare room will be the new babys room sooo they will be going in the closet

I told DH buy whatever you and and save it for when you have your own room in other words the basement. He has bought things like Metallic figurines and other yucky boy things that I would NEVER EVER put out. He understand that while we were in the apartment they had NO place. They were in a special closet just for him, so he could open it and visit whenever he wanted

So if and when Frankie gets his sports room-media- bar- football- yankee memorabilia room (in other words when we finish the basement) then he can put up any stuff that he would like!

Tell Mike buy what he would like and store it for when he gets his own room too

When we moved from his condo to the house...his sports stuff went in his basement!!!
He loves to show it off to the guys and it's away from the rest of the house.

at least your statue is not of a naked woman giving an older man head!

yes, DH has a mini statue like this...once i showed my parents during a visit he got so embarrassed we haven't fought about 'ugly things' since

dh has A LOT of sports stuff too, so I let him (yeah let him lol HA) display it in the den. So he has a whole sports wall in the den. I did not want baseballs and stadium pictures in our living room.

We have an understanding- he gets the garage and PART of the basement- the rest in MINE!

This is a funny question. Bri will tell ya nothing, nada. She doesn't like my taste. Except when it comes to women(brownie points love you baby). If she let me decorate it all i need is a lazy boy,a flatscreen tv, and a fridge full with food.

That's exactly what I did. He has his computer and his models and posters in the spare bedroom...which he considers 'his room'. That's fine. I get to decorate every other room in the house!

When we bought our house, I let him have one room where he can display stuff and decorate...as long as I approve of it!!!!

He doesn't mind though...he's not really into interior design.

I am lucky - DH and I agree on most stuff as far as decor and he is really good at it. So we pretty much have equal say. We do disagree on some decor items but he knows our home is no longer a bachelor's apt or a collge dorm and we can usually come to a compromise.

He does have a gym in the house so he can decorate that however her pleases and I don't say much. It is kind of sports themed. He has sports memorabilia and stars wars junk but it kind of looks cute and it fits the look for a gym...the only think is too much Yankee stuff - but he does let me display some of my Mets stuff but there is more Yankees than Mets in the room.

He started to try to sneak some crap in like dollar store porcelain figurines and some old crap from his mother's house (which was hideously decorated back in the 70's). When he was searching around for a place to hang his mother's oversized wooden spoon and fork wall plaques, I threatened to make them kindling and they found a lovely spot in his closet

I told him he can decorate the garage with all his car crap and the spare room (which holds the doggies cages) but that's it...If I wanted to live in a flea market, I'd move my butt over to Tri County...
