how much do you tip each band member?

I have read the tipping article here and can't really figure out how much to tip each band member. (The article really on mentioned DJs and band leaders...)

We are having a 9 piece band... Do I tip each member separately? If so, how much? Do I tip the band leader more? Do I just give the entire tip to the band leader to distribute?

FWIW, this is a self-managed band (no management company taking the $$$).

We are definitely feeding them... but I realize that's not a tip.

ETA - I've heard conflicting things on tipping the band... Are you supposed to tip each member?

I sing in a wedding band. Not everyone tips. In fact, we get tipped about half of the time. When we do, the people usually give cash to the bandleader & he distributes.

Oh and we are a 6 piece and people usually throw us an extra $25-50 each.

I've seen $20-$30 per band member, or taking the total amount you're paying, multiply by 18-20% and dividing it among the members of the band.

That's a HUGE difference in tip in our case.

Oh, and if you are going to tip them, make sure you TELL the bandleader. Say something like 'there's a little something extra in there.' Otherwise they may not even notice until later when they are packing up or the next day & they won't have an opportunity to thank you. Maybe even have 2 envelopes - 1 for the balance due & 1 for the tip.

We'll be paying the balance before the wedding day, so that shouldn't be a problem!

Good to know, though, especially for other vendors. I think we'll put payments and tips in separate envelopes!
