how much does a wedding planner cost / what do they do?

I'm curious how much a wedding planner costs and what exactly they do for you.

Is it worth hiring one if you've already booked your hall / church / band?

Many people actually hire them after booking those things...They can help alot with your vision for your wedding, and can really come up with great ideas for decorating the room that many others wouldn't think of...They can also help with other vendors you still need to hire...Ultimately its up to you whether you think it's worth it or not.

I've been thinking about this too, but i also dont want someone else thinking they're in charge of my wedding, many of them get like that and think their ideas matter more than yours ...

and so far her and her assistant Dina have been very helpful. They constatntly send me emails asking me if i need anything and ask how my wedding process is going, if i need help. I booked all of my vendors already and only hired her for the day of only. Her rates are reasonable. Here is a description of the package i am using from her website.

Event Day Coordination:This package begins 1-2 months prior to the event and includes up to three planning sessions to develop the event schedule, site inspection and vendor walk through, creation of a minute to minute itinerary, scheduling of professional services and final confirmations, coordination of ceremony rehearsal and event, payment to professional services on the event day and worry free day for the client. We are the first to arrive and the last to leave, ensuring that every detail is covered and the event runs smoothly. We would prefer, although it is not mandatory, to book this package 6 months in advance.

Any ideas how their fees work? Is it a flat fee or hourly? Any idea on price range?

It's a flat fee...All the wedding planners sites that i looked at all had their prices listed. Depends, you can find some for 2-3 thousand, and others for alot more...average i saw was 5-7 thousand. But i did see alot of 3,000 prices

Im using Francesca from Dazzling Affairs and can not say enough about her. I had booked my hall and church when we booked her and she has been nothing but an absolute life saver. She booked all my appointments for me with the vendors I wanted to see and has opened me to up to so many options when I have gotten caught. She is also very easy to get in touch with and returns phone calls and emails quickly.
